BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team
The Engineering Team is a dedicated group of four professionals, including two Engineering Technologists, one Forest Technologist, and the Engineering Officer. This established team plays a critical role in maintaining and monitoring forest service roads and major access structures while constructing and deactivating roads as needed. Their collaborative efforts with the Timber Development, Planning, and Silviculture Teams are instrumental in achieving quarterly goals, managing substantial budgets, and ensuring road networks meet safety and environmental standards. The Role
As an Engineering Officer, you’ll play a key role in managing contractors to monitor and maintain roads and access structures, ensuring the safety of the Forest Service Road network for all users. This operationally focused role offers a unique opportunity within government to lead large-scale construction projects across the Cariboo Chilcotin, combining hands-on fieldwork with impactful project management. Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management and three years of experience in one or more operational field forestry activities.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five years of experience in one or more area of operational field forestry.
- Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference statements:
- Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific operational field-based forestry experience in silviculture.
- Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific forestry experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, or timber tenure administration.
- Experience in contract or financial administration.
Provisos /Willingness statements:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:
This position can be located in Williams Lake or Quesnel.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Cariboo - Chilcotin Business Area (Williams Lake Quesnel).
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
