Job Summary

The Team

The Thompson Okanagan Region Forest Landscape Planning (FLP) Team, part of the Strategic Initiatives Branch, is a newly formed group (2023) dedicated to creating innovative forest management strategies. This team, comprising two FLP Team Leads and three Land and Resource Specialists, collaborates closely with Natural Resource Forest Districts, government ministries, First Nations, and other stakeholders to ensure a sustainable and inclusive approach to forestry. They are passionate about integrating First Nations’ values and interests, working toward resilient, diverse ecosystems in a new era of forestry management.

The Role

In this role, you will support the FLP team by gathering and analyzing data, coordinating with both internal and external partners, scheduling meetings, and driving progress on key initiatives. You will help foster collaboration with First Nations and other stakeholders to ensure that forest management is inclusive and reflective of diverse values. This is an opportunity to shape the future of forestry in collaboration with First Nations, working in an innovative, flexible, and supportive environment. Your creativity and vision will have a direct impact on the land and the communities, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable approach to forest management.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management) or an equivalent combination of education/training plus, 2 or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Advance training in project management.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders and leading consultation sessions.
  • Experience with and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s licence.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in contract management as the qualified receiver, tracking deliverables, and ensuring program objectives are met.
  • Experience in effectively resolving conflicts around sensitive issues.
  • Experience in participating and/or coordinating the development of forest landscape plans or other strategic management plans consistent with government policy and regulations.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
