The Team
The Indigenous Relations Team at BCTS is a reestablished team dedicated to fostering strong and meaningful partnerships with local First Nations while managing the full forestry development lifecycle, ensuring sustainable and resilient forest ecosystems and is committed to inclusive and adaptive forest management practices, This team consists of two Indigenous Relations Liaisons, who, with the Indigenous Relations Team Lead (IRTL), will work closely with various Forestry Operations Managers to develop plans that benefit the environment, wildlife, and industry. The work of this team has a significant impact on both reconciliation efforts and sustainable resource management and offers the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of experts while building lasting relationships with Indigenous communities. The Role
The Indigenous Relations Team Lead is a new and essential role within the Prince George and Stuart Nechako Business Areas of BC Timber Sales, focused on cultivating respectful and meaningful relationships with First Nations whose territories overlap the Omineca region. The IRTL will supervise two Indigenous Relations Liaisons while ensuring strong and effective consultation efforts on Timber Sale operating plans and supporting strategic engagement and collaborative projects like Forest Landscape Planning. In addition to overseeing complex legal consultations, the IRTL will manage negotiations and implement agreements that contribute to reconciliation, strengthen relationships with Indigenous Peoples, and advance BCTS' commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Degree in a field related to the work of the program area and three (3) years of experience related to natural resource (i.e., forestry) or Indigenous Peoples relationship management or a Diploma in a related field and four (4) years of experience.
- Experience in successfully negotiating/mediating solutions with Indigenous Peoples’ communities.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience with contract management.
- Experience or education in forestry or natural resource management.
- Experience or education related to Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
- Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
- Demonstrated experience in interest-based negotiation or mediation.
Provisos:
- Must be willing and able to travel within the region to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing to work extended hours with limited notice, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.

This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
