Description
The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Graduate of an approved Health Information Management Program required
• Current member in good standing of the Canadian Health Information Management Association, including completion of required
• CPE credits required
• Intermediate level proficiency using the MS Office Suite of products and Internet required
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Medical Terminology required
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of coding conventions, including the use of ICD-10-CA/CCI Folios, and principles, working knowledge of CMG/HIG assignment, weighting methodology and data quality initiatives required
• Knowledge of standard Health Record practice, procedures, legislation and hospital policies required
• Minimum of one year recent hospital coding experience preferred
• Experience using an electronic health records system including document management and master patient index preferred
• Intermediate to advanced skill in abstraction software (ie - Med2020 Winrecs) preferred
• Coding and abstraction of all required records according to ICD-10-CA/CCI and guidelines
• Initiates data quality guidelines for all abstracted data to ensure accuracy of documentation, coding and length of stay data
• Performs audits, studies, and research as required
• Responds to requests for patient information according to legislation and departmental guidelines
• Performs quantitative analysis of charts according to legislation, departmental and medical staff guidelines
• Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
• Other related duties as assigned
Selection will be made on the basis of ability, experience and qualifications as per Article 11.04 of the SEIU Collective Agreement
