The Opportunity:

For the 2024-25 academic year, we are looking for an After School Program Assistant on a 1 year contract working 15 hours weekly. This position is responsible for assisting with overall routines, supervision, planning and implementation of activities for children 4-12 years of age.

The After School Program Assistant will have experience working with elementary-aged children and be familiar with age-appropriate activities. The Program Assistant should be comfortable and confident interacting with parents as well as children. A positive attitude and enthusiasm to contribute to our program and ideally be interested in a career in teaching.

The hours for the position will generally be Monday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. during the academic year. Additional hours may be available on school Professional Activity Days, Teacher Conferences or other School Events.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Assist with overall routines, program planning and implementation in the after-school program;

Assist with daily attendance records and liaise with parents and/or other caregivers;

Assist with supervision of homework;

Assist with supervision of outdoor play activities;

Plan and prepare activities and crafts to meet the needs of the students enrolled;

Escort children safely to and from after-school activities within the school campus;

Communicate with parents and/ or caregivers about their child and important information relevant to the program both in person and via phone calls;

Operate the school entry system;

Maintain the After-Care spaces, including daily prep and clean-up

Assume responsibility for the supervision of the children in the absence of the Director of After School Program as required

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Experience working with groups of children, camp counsellor background is preferred

Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with Primary/ Junior qualifications is highly preferred;

A proven ability to have a caring rapport with students;

Standard First Air & CPR certifications are required;

Possess strong oral and written communication skills;

Work independently with little direct supervision;

Accept responsibility and is self-motivated;

A positive attitude and ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanour;

Target Hiring Salary: $21 Hourly
