Job Summary

The Assistant Terminal Manager, Autoramp is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of clerical duties and ground operations.  Reporting to the Terminal Manager, Autoramp, the position is accountable for ensuring safe working procedures are in place, up to date, and complied with and sound processes are in place to support a safe and efficient operation. Moreover, the role ensures employees are led fairly and that collective agreements are respected.

Main Responsibilities Operating Efficiency and Customer Service

·       Collaborate with Field Supervisors and Transportation on train Estimated Time of Arrivals (ETAs) and plan placements ensuring efficiencies for the terminal

·       Collaborate with Field Supervisors to plan workload based on inbound pipeline maximizing daily resources across all shifts ensuring consistent terminal fluidity

·       Ensure customer emails are processed in a timely fashion, handled professionally and correctly

·       Handle and maintain staff schedules, maximizing resources based on marketing forecasts

·       Handle terminal fluidity through communication with sales, customers, and haul away carriers

Safety

·       Train and coach employees and supervisors on safe work procedures

·       Investigate and report on all incidents, accidents, and injuries

·       Respond to Health and Safety committee concerns and complaints ensuring all issues brought forward to management are addressed

·       Communicate changes to work procedures

Cost Control

·       Balance daily operating decisions to maximize most cost-effective solutions

·       Reduce the number of times we touch a vehicle maximizing cost per unit and reducing risk of damage and incidents

·       Provide recommended solutions that will improve the overall operating costs in the terminal

·       Validate and reconcile all accounts payable and receivable

·       Implement procedures that reduce risk of erroneous invoicing and payments

·       Actively monitor costs and identify areas needing improvement

People Management

·       Handle employees within the bounds of the collective agreement, under the guidance of CN’s leadership values and competencies

·       Communicate goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations

·       Handle accurate time reporting, vacation schedule, job postings, for management and unionized employees

·       Monitor, report, and investigate attendance issues

·       Investigate and document poor performance

·       Participate actively in the Labour Relations (LR) committee

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments with various environmental and weather conditions with varying shift work including days, nights, and weekends. The role is required to be on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to work autonomously, meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Requirements Experience

Management

·       Between 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in a unionized environment

o    Experience working in an operations-based environment

Education/Certification/Designation

·       Post-Secondary Degree in Operations or Business*

·       Valid Driver’s License

·       Emergency response first aid and CPR certified

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

·       Comprehensive knowledge of safe rail and work practices

·       Good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Service Reliability Systems (SRS), and Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP)

·       Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and process management
