Job Summary
The Specialist, Solution and System Integration is responsible for integrating various technologies into the CN Information and Technology (I&T) network infrastructure and systems. The role is accountable for producing engineering specifications and detailed designs, defining test plans, executing tests, deploying the technology, enabling the support team and providing third level support as required. Furthermore, the incumbent extends and evolves CN’s network, platforms and systems in answer to new business requirements.
Main Responsibilities
Design and Implementation
Translate the technology solution architecture into engineering standards and specifications
Create detailed designs based on blueprint and test results in the lab
Create Telecom or systems integration documentation including Buildbooks
Propose solutions that adhere to CN Telecom standards
Provide guidance on required deployment tasks
Estimate overall solution costs (e.g., Telecom, S&C, Telco, other) and share information with Project Managers and stakeholders
Deploy solutions based on the Telecom Service Catalogue
Follow the System Development Lifecycle by initiating Change Controls and executing cut-over plans
Testing and Documentation
Establish test plans and results for new defined solution
Conduct lab testing and log results
Pre-configure and lab-test all infrastructure required during deployment as well as document tests and log results
Transition from Core to Operation seamlessly including an update of documentation, system integration, enhanced training programs, and presentations ensuring the delivery team thoroughly documents every aspect of the provided solution to facilitate supportability, enabling the frontline team to effectively support operations
Resolve appropriate resolution and solution through root cause analysis and impact analysis
Investigate incidents through root-cause analysis and propose solutions for remediation
Create technical diagrams and documentation for the solution
Assist Assessment and Qualification (A&Q) with daily requests to provide labor and material estimates
Apply and ensure compliance with all appropriate CN I&T standards (e.g., Security, Architecture, Project Delivery Methodology, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX))
Engagement and Collaboration
Engage with Network Operations, I&T teams, Telecom Teams, Signals and Communications (S&C), and Business customers to capture requirements
Establish deployment and migration strategy as well as guide the project team and Network Operations
Guide other integrators and help address issues and potential issues with them
Coordinate installation with technicians in the field and with business owners for maintenance window
Engage external providers and work with Business Planning, Supply Management, and Legal teams in the context of procuring delivery and support services of existing or new services
Work with Project Managers during the planning phases and identify deployment steps and risks
Ensure successful communication about deployments to the Operational Support teams
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires occasional business travel in accordance with CN policy for meetings with ecosystem partners, visit field sites for deployment activities or to attend industry events or conferences.

Minimum 3 years of experience deploying radio systems
Experience with Radio Frequency (RF) prediction software (e.g., Pathloss, Linkplanner)
Proven experience delivering technology projects involving multiple parties
Previous railroad experience in communications*

Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent
Telecommunications specialties and certifications*
Federal Communications Commission General Radio Operator License (FCC GROL)*
Technical Certifications*
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent*

Technical Skills/Knowledge
Familiar with the United States (U.S.) Licensing process (FCC) as well as Canadian rules and regulations
Familiar with Canada Licensing (Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), Nav Canada)
Broad knowledge of I&T infrastructure, security principles and telecommunication technologies
Strong systems engineering knowledge
Good knowledge of radio technology from Very High Frequency (VHF) to Microwave and various modulation schemes including Frequency Modulations (FM), NXDN, Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DQPSK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM)
Understanding and use of VISIO to provide drawings of system interconnections and site layouts
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Knowledge of test equipment used such as the Line sweep monitors, service monitors, multimeters, watt meters.
