As a Chemical Engineering student within our Major Projects team, you will have an opportunity that will afford you valuable, hands-on process engineering experience. Roles in Major Projects include positions in both the Downstream and Upstream team (Froth Treatment and In-Pit Extraction Process). Take advantage of the chance to be a part of one of the world’s largest Oil Sands operations, work closely with seasoned process engineers, and become familiar with the world of chemical processing. This opportunity will allow you to gain insight into how the Oil Sands industry operates.
- Term length: 8 Months
- Term start: January 2025
- Job location: Calgary, Alberta - Head Office.
- Please note, depending on business need, the work location may change. This would require the successful candidate to work at one of our Oil Sands sites north of Fort McMurray, AB - flights and accommodations would be provided.
- Shift schedule: 5 x 2 - 8 hours (Calgary) or 4 x 3 - 10 hours (Oil Sands)

Key Accountabilities:
- Able to prepare heat and material balances process units
- Review process data sheets for equipment, mainly heat exchangers, pumps, and vessels
- Verify line hydraulics using specific process software for gas/ liquid/slurry
- Participate in What If, HAZOP, 3D model reviews
- Provide support to Process Engineering team on subjects like hydraulic calculations, relief system calculations, simulations, etc.
- Provide support on developing/updating technical and non-technical reports required by the Project team
- Provide support checking technical drawings in relation to process engineering
What You Bring to The Role:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree Program in Chemical or Process Engineering or within one year of graduation
- Experience with general process simulators i.e. Hysys, hydraulic simulators for gases, liquids & slurries, AFT Fathom & Arrow, or equivalent experience is considered an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
