Mechanical Engineering Student - Mine Maintenance and Reliability

The Opportunity:

Exciting opportunity alert! If you're a student keen on diving into the world of mining trucks and shovels, our Mine Maintenance team is the place to be! You'll get hands-on experience with Heavy Equipment, contributing to designing and optimizing maintenance strategies for our top-notch Mining Machines. 

With focus on planning and reliability, you may have the opportunity to also work with our plant operations reliability team focusing on critical assets such as conveyor belts, pumps, compressors, and other rotating equipment. Including conducting failure analysis investigations and enhancing equipment strategies for long-term safety and performance of plant and mine mobile equipment. 

If you  are mechanically inclined, have an interest in machinery and do not mind getting your hands dirty, this opportunity is perfect for you! 

  • Term length: 8,12 or 16 months

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in developing cost-effective maintenance strategies for our fleet of shovels, trucks, and various support equipment
  • Participate in identification of equipment bad actors and work with internal and external stakeholders for resolutions
  • Review maintenance histories, costs and key performance indictors to identity and implement improvement initiatives
  • Prepare and compile maintenance statistics for use to manage costs, equipment availability and to optimize maintenance work
  • Participate in the development and updating of equipment maintenance standard operating procedures
  • Maintain an unwavering commitment to safety for oneself and to support Canadian Natural’s core safety values 

What You Bring to The Role:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous reliability and/or heavy industry experience considered an asset
  • A class 5 driver’s license and a relatively clean driver’s abstract is required for this position. Ability to drive in the mine with no known restrictions.
  • Required to be physically and mentally fit for work
  • A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must be successfully completed
