About this opportunity:

Cenovus is looking to fill the role of Operations Backup Day Shift Senior Supervisor. The objective of this role is to maintain safe, environmentally sound, and reliable asset capabilities within the refinery. The responsibilities of this role include leadership of frontline operators, provide relief coverage for day shift senior supervisors, additional supervision for control of work activities, and overseeing or assessing operator training compliance.

Work Environment:

  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation of 4 days on and 3 days off, with 10-hour shifts, but must be available to switch to 12-hour shifts (7 days) when providing coverage for the Day Shift Supervisor

What you’ll do:

  • Fill Day Shift Senior Supervisor roles for coverage as required, overseeing operator training compliance and reporting on team and individual progress to meet yearly training goals

  • Assess operators for certification/re-certification, including control of work processes and procedure walkthroughs

  • Supervise control of work activities, including handling abnormal conditions, LOTO, and isolation plans, while ensuring safe and efficient completion of daily orders, maintenance schedules, and short-term plans (STP) in collaboration with cross-functional teams (Maintenance, Turnaround, Operations, Engineering)

  • Coach and mentor operations personnel, focusing on training, competency development, and performance reviews, and provide regular updates on training compliance

  • Stay informed on priority information and abnormal conditions through daily logbooks and management of administrative tasks such as timesheet approvals

  • Lead and support plant optimization efforts, start-ups/shutdowns, process recovery, and emergency response efforts, including man-down and ERP drills

  • Serve as an additional resource for turnaround efforts, actively participating in site safety and operational meetings, MOC processes, risk assessments, and incident management support

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • 12-18 years of experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or industrial field

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3rd Class Power Engineering certification required

  • 3+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated mentorship and leadership abilities

  • Solid understanding of refinery operations, including control of work activities

  • Experience with union contracts is an asset

  • Proficient in reading and marking up technical documents (P&IDs) with a solid understanding of process flow diagrams

  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills, with experience in safety management systems, regulations, and standards

  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration, organization, and risk management skills

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
