About this opportunity:

The Project Controls & Turnaround Cost Control Lead is responsible for maintaining Project cost information database monthly to track Project Cost Performance against budget, committed, and incurred costs. The position will also be required to forecast baselines and report results to Management. The Cost Control Lead will assume a key role in the implementation of a standard project execution process that is aligned with the Project Management Environment (PME) process as well as the Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS). This role will be working with both third-party contractors (engineering companies, vendors, contractors) and internal clients and requires strong customer service and communication skills to align with the needs of the individual project engineers and team/site leadership.

The Project Controls & Turnaround Cost Control Lead will support implementation of department initiatives intended to strive towards continuous improvement, standardization, improvement of integration across functions, gain efficiency, implement new technology, etc.

What you’ll do:

  • Cost Control Lead will support Small Projects Team with regards to LRP budget preparation, cost control planning and budget forecasts and AFE maintenance.

  • Cost Control Lead will prepare and submit monthly progress reports in terms of costs and progress.

  • Cost Control Lead will support project execution by providing daily reporting of cost & progress throughout execution including verification of SAP and P6 data.

  • The Cost Control Lead will also ensure adherence to LEM’s validation and approval process which includes daily LEMS analysis and tracking.

  • Cost Control Lead will provide support to Turnaround Team with regards to LRP budget preparation, cost control planning and budget forecasts and AFE maintenance.

  • Cost Control Lead will support pre-turnround, turnaround and post-turnaround execution by providing daily reporting of cost & progress throughout turnaround execution including verification of SAP and P6 data.

  • Cost Control Lead will be responsible managing Cost Control Analysts and LEMS Analysts to support Small Projects and Turnaround execution depending on scope complexity.

  • Cost Control Lead will report directly to Manager of Small Projects during non-turnaround years and will transition to support plant turnaround and outage execution reporting directly to Turnaround Manager.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • 8 - 12 years of experience in cost control

  • 8 -12 years of experience in finance

  • CPA is required & P Eng. is an asset

  • Proven experience managing LEMs and Cost Control Analysts or similar role

  • Experience working on refinery or plant Turnarounds is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadline

  • Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills

  • Proficient in using Power BI, Open Invoice and SAP

  • Experience working in Primavera (P6) is highly desirable

  • Excellent communication, time-management, and organization skills

  • Proven industry experience in Oil & Gas

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
