About this opportunity:

Cenovus is looking for a Staff Facilities Engineer to join its organization. Reporting to the Facilities Engineering Manager, the Staff Facilities Engineer will provide mechanical engineering support to the Bolney, Celtic and Direct River Intake facilities and associated raw water infrastructure. This role will also work closely with and mentor Facilities Engineers at the Sandall, Paradise Hill, Spruce Lake Central and Spruce Lake North assets.

Work Environment:

  • This position is a full time, permanent position, located in our Lloydminster office and requires the successful candidate to live in the area and travel to field facilities twice per week

What you’ll do:

  • Be the point of contact for on-site technical support to the Maintenance and Operations teams, providing engineering expertise on facility non-RIK changes, mechanical alterations/workarounds, and equipment installations/repairs

  • Perform piping and mechanical system design in accordance with specifications, codes, regulations, and recommended practices (e.g. CSA Z662, ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1, B31.1 & B31.3)

  • Fulfill functions described in corporate integrity programs like PEIMS and PLIMP, including approval of closure weld forms and sign-off of EPE installations and hot taps

  • Provide upfront scoping for day-to-day, low complexity mechanical work and support scoping efforts for larger projects through field verifications, data gathering, and walk downs

  • Generate mechanical engineering work packages by creating and modifying engineering drawings such as P&IDs, line lists, and general arrangement layouts, and develop standardized designs and methodologies for repeatable projects

  • Perform field validations to verify the design content of controlled technical documents and complete project management deliverables for in-scope work including cost estimates, schedules, forecasting, budget stewardship, and reporting

  • Cascade work to other engineering teams based on scope and responsibilities, and facilitate the Cenovus Management of Change (MOC) process to safely manage facility changes

  • Submit Engineering Investigations (EI) and management of change (MOC) requests on behalf of assigned facilities, and support Operations in framing and scoping requests to engage centralized engineering teams

  • Ensure engineering work is carried out within the requirements of the Cenovus Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP)

  • Provide technical support and mentorship of Facilities Engineers at the Sandall, Paradise Hill, Spruce Lake North, and Spruce Lake Central assets, and work with Operations and other peer groups to prioritize work amongst the above assets

What you’ll do:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Licensed Professional Engineer registered with APEGA or APEGS

  • 12-18 years mechanical and/or facilities engineering experience is required

  • A Minimum of 10 years of experience in oil and gas facilities is required

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills

  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
