About this opportunity:

The Workforce Analytics & Strategic Planning team at Cenovus is looking for an individual who is passionate about turning data into meaningful information, themes and insights that can be easily understood and used across HR and the organization. Working closely with the HR Centers of Excellence (COEs), Corporate Planning, Finance and the business, the Workforce Planning team strives to coordinate the annual and monthly workforce planning processes to support the development of the Long-Range Plan and the annual budget.

Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include activities associated with coordinating the compilation, analysis and reporting of workforce planning outputs that act as an input to several processes and teams across Cenovus. The role includes advisory support to HR Business Partners in the capacity of headcount/position planning and budgeting, as well as collaboration and partnership across other business functions. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work with Senior Leaders and members of the Cenovus Leadership team. These requests will require confidence, creativity and resourcefulness to present data that will enable thoughtful decision making.

This is a full-time employee position located in our corporate office in Calgary, Alberta.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for supporting Cenovus’ annual and monthly workforce planning processes and helping our Workforce Plan Owners sustain the plans.

  • Partner with various internal team members to support workforce planning decisions.

  • Perform audits to ensure accurate and timely management of staff positions and vacancy data in the workforce plan.

  • Coordinate the ongoing management of the approved headcount/positions by providing data summaries, visualizations, and explanations of variances.

  • Develop creative ways to streamline, improve and automate workforce planning processes.

  • Influence and handle changes in the Workforce Planning database and associated Workforce Planning Input Tool.

  • Keep up to date with external trends and innovations related to workforce planning.

  • Partner with HR Operations to ensure transactional processes are delivering the high level of data quality required for workforce planning.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders at various levels across the organization.

  • Provide training and support to end users to support workforce planning.

  • Influence the transition from operational/tactical Workforce Planning to Strategic Workforce Planning, with a focus on understanding skills of the future and helping to identify skills gaps.

  • Provide ad-hoc reporting as required.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Completion of a Post-secondary degree in a related field.

  • Have a minimum of 8+ years of experience in areas of workforce planning, strategy planning, resource management, and/or talent forecasting.

  • Uses research and data analysis skills with the ability to draw associated insights and make effective business recommendations.

  • Experience with Power BI and databases with an intermediate knowledge of Excel.

  • Familiarity with Workday and SAP as well as with financial budgeting processes/financial reporting.

  • Ability to convey information clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization including the C-suite.

  • Ability to be able to transition easily between tactical and strategic thinking and be comfortable working with ambiguity and complexity.

  • Self-motivated, creative problem solver with the ability to arrive at solutions independently.

  • Demonstrated experience in identifying continuous improvement opportunities, a passion for learning and challenging the status quo.

  • Strong consultation skills and a customer service attitude.

  • Proven track record to partner with groups as HR works closely with other functions.

  • Natural tendency to validate data results to ensure accuracy in data and reporting; interested in investigating anomalies independently and without guidance.

  • Strong ability to work independently, multi-task and handle competing priorities effectively.

  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality.
