The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) Human Resources (HR) Advisor position starting August 19, 2024 in the Human Resources department. The Human Resources (HR) Advisor acts as the first point of contact for current Rocky View Schools (RVS) employees. Reporting to the Director of HR, the HR Advisor provides accurate and relevant information and advice to senior management and school administrators regarding RVS’ policies, procedures, and personnel matters. The HR Advisor maintains employee life cycle events in HRMS, conducts workplace investigations, updates policies and procedures, provides input on staffing decisions, and supports the

disability and leave process for employees.

Responsibilities Include

Advises on all areas of employee relations, including the interpretation, administration and

communication of RVS employment policies and programs, ensuring compliance with applicable

employment legislation

Informs, collaborates with, and provides guidance to all levels of RVS leadership regarding

workplace planning and staffing mobility while ensuring compliance with RVS administrative

regulations, Collective Agreement (CA), Terms of Employment (T of E), employment legislations,

and HR best practices

Coaches and advises RVS leadership, school administrators, and employees on the interpretation

of personnel policies and procedures; compensation and benefit programs; and CA and T of E

Facilitates timely resolution of support staff employee relation issues and workplace conflict

Conducts workplace investigations and provides recommendations to the Associate Superintendent

of HR or designate

Reviews and initiates action to resolve employee concerns and escalates as appropriate

Supports the progressive discipline processes for support staff up to and including termination as

appropriate, in consultation with RVS leadership

In collaboration with Supervisors and Disability Coordinators, supports the facilitation of

employee disability leaves, workers compensation board claims, short term and long term

disability claims, return to work planning, modified duties, and replacement staffing

Participates in special projects and provides project oversight from design through

implementation as required by the HR team and as assigned by the Director of HR and/or the

Associate Superintendent of HR

Identifies, analyzes and prepares proposals for systematic implementation of business process

changes and efficiencies within Human Resources Management System (HRMS)

Partners with HR team and supervisory staff to create and maintain HR programs and training

initiatives that promote the desired organizational culture for RVS and HR best practices

Creates, updates, and maintains job descriptions, and facilitates the job evaluation and job

appeal processes according to established guidelines

Utilizes HRMS to access, input, and compile data to support organizational decisions and

reporting requirements as required

Researches, compiles, and analyzes reports related to HR best practices

Coordinates employee performance appraisals including coaching Supervisors on appraisal best

practices and supporting the Remediation Plan process as required

Education/Experience

Bachelor degree in HR/Business Administration, or a related field

Five or more years progressive experience in HR

Previous HR experience within a school division or unionized environment is considered an asset

Training and experience with workplace investigations is considered and asset

Chartered Professional in Human Resource (CPHR) designation is considered an asset

Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation and current HR best practices

Ability to coach and counsel employees and supervisors effectively utilizing outstanding

verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and conflict resolution skills

Advanced organizational and prioritization skills

Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in

a timely manner

Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal

supervision

High levels of service-oriented performance, integrity and professionalism

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
