About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Vice-President, Oil Sands Operations (OSO), the Christina Lake Senior Field Manager acts as the representative of the Cenovus leadership for the asset.

The Senior Field Manager has the highest level of authority on site and is accountable for ensuring safe work practices are effectively implemented and managed, risk to production outages are appropriately identified and mitigated, and Cenovus’s practices, procedures, policies, and regulations are consistently applied across all site-based teams and functions including construction, well servicing, operations, engineering, camps and enabling services.

In addition, the Senior Field Manager has accountability to manage steam, & utilities, water treatment, process and de-oiling and field operations teams to meet daily operations performance requirements. They are responsible for small project and off-site commissioning, and the safe work team permitting and associated activities. Finally, this individual is expected to participate in stakeholder relations for Cenovus in the region.

Work Environment:

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift 11 hours 25 mins per day, 8 days on, 6 days off, first and last day 5 hours 42 mins per day, (Thursday to Thursday)

  • Christina Lake has full-service camp facility

  • Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations

  • Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB

What you’ll do:

Responsible Operations

  • Execute responsibilities according to Cenovus' Safety Commitments and Life Saving Rules by ensuring compliance to safety policies and procedures, escalating unsafe work and identifying safety concerns

  • Execute responsibilities according to Cenovus' Environmental Commitments by considering the environment in work activities and contributing to continually improving environmental performance being responsible stewards of the environment while meeting all obligations

  • Responsible for management and oversight of personal and process safety, risk identification and assessment, risk mitigation, timely investigation of both incidents and high potential events as well as mitigation to prevent future similar events

  • Responsible for timely completion/participation in field audits, inspections, investigation, and corrective actions, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations

Building the Future

  • Responsible to work closely with the Operations stakeholders to set, prioritize and implement strategic initiatives/team objectives and optimize the overall production strategy

  • Identifies emerging issues affecting the functional area

Managing the Business

  • Ensure financial and operational objectives are met and aligned with the principles of Cenovus

  • Engage in sound planning processes to maximize results and drive continuous improvement within the business

  • Engages in sound planning processes to maximize results

  • Actively promotes compliance of all regulations, guides and corporate policies

  • Ensures the implementation and ongoing development and compliance with the Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS)

  • Work with Field Managers across Oil Sands assets to prioritize alignment and consistency as applicable

Leading Others

  • Accountable for the performance and results of multiple teams

  • Provides leadership to Senior Coordinators and/or Coordinators across various work teams

  • Coaches direct reports in how to balance effective leadership and management practices

  • Delegates and empowers appropriately and follows up with the correct amount of support

Leading by Example

  • Models our organizational culture in both internal and cross functional activities

  • Continually looks for developmental opportunities for self and for those they lead

  • Supports company direction/decisions and translates to team objectives

  • Monitors safety and role models the professionalism of a safety manager

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Minimum 15+ years of oil and gas experience including field Leadership operations.

  • Proven management and leadership experience

  • Holds all required certifications to perform the job, with a preference for either ideally a First-Class Power Engineering Certificate or Engineering degree

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational competency, including the proven ability to collaborate across functional work teams

  • Willingness to rotate between the OSO sites for future development and alignment opportunities

  • An outstanding role model who inspires confidence, builds trust and consensus, and foster a vibrant environment in which employees are motivated to excel

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
