About this opportunity:

The Contracts Advisor is responsible for the daily management of the mineral interests in their assigned area, supporting the area Negotiator and Mineral Land Analyst. Day-to-day activities would include receiving, circulating, and processing documents from partners and 3rd parties, agreement drafting, attending drilling planning/execution meetings, reviewing, and approving well locations, as well as maintaining the records in CS Explorer associated with the area. The pace in this role can fluctuate, based on operated and non-operated activities, A&D, as well as external factors. A successful candidate in this role can adapt to the situation, provide accurate and complete information to collaborators, and maintain the integrity of our internal files.

What you’ll do:

  • Tracks contract obligations

  • Title review including drilling opinion review and curative action.

  • Demonstrates ability to identify and rectify deficiencies in chain of title.

  • Accountable for the preparation, processing and tracking of operated and non-operated ION’s.

  • Reviews and is responsible for ensuring data consistency in the CS land system.

  • Handles the abandonment process including reviewing and communicating information to all partners.

  • Accountable for updating contract land information in Generwell and Qbyte AFE.

  • Accountable for reviewing and responding to third party ROFR’s; in collaboration with Negotiator and Asset Team.

  • Prepares operated ROFR’s and ensures adherence to deadlines.

  • Accountable for acquisition, trade and divestment documentation including due diligence (title review and identification of title deficiencies).

  • Demonstrates ability to prepare land schedules, reports or statistics.

  • Understanding and working knowledge of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia Crown regulations, as well as Freehold and Fee title tenure

  • May be involved in process and procedure development work.

  • Demonstrates ability to analyze contracts and determine accurate working interests and encumbrances.

  • Understands payout concepts and issues.

  • Processes external and internal inquiries in a timely fashion.

  • Routine contract drafting and negotiating of standard industry elections in Upstream E&P contracts using pre-approved precedent forms and basic CAPL and PASC model forms drafted by joint venture partners.

  • Assists Senior Contracts Landman, Negotiators and Law with drafting non-routine, complex or strategic contracts.

  • Incorporates the principles of Contract Law when drafting routine contracts

Who you are:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of oil and gas land administration experience.

  • Graduate of a recognized Land program is preferred or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Active member of CALEP.

  • Solid understanding of CALEP Operating Procedures & PASC Accounting Procedures

  • Strong understanding of mineral tenure across BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan

  • Experience in conflict and dispute resolution

  • High attention to detail as well as strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage and adjust priorities in a high paced, dynamic environment would be good to include as well.
