Cenovus is currently looking for a Unit Contact Engineer based in our Lloydminster Office.

The main deliverables for the job opportunity are continuous improvement, optimum process efficiencies, high equipment reliability, high product quality & facilitation of the Management of Change (MOC) & Engineering Investigations (EI) processes.

Work Environment:

  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area

  • Regular work hours are Monday to Friday - 40-hour work week

What you’ll do:

  • Develop & monitor the day-to-day operating targets and specifications of the designated plants in Lloydminster Downstream units identifying and communicating any deviations and corrective actions required

  • Identify and communicate unit performance capabilities through mass and energy balances, process simulations, performance test runs, and vendor/specialist consultations

  • Lead/participate in multidisciplinary plant wide and corporate initiatives related to reliability, safety and the corporate standards and procedures of Cenovus Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS)

  • Initiate & participate in process hazard assessments for responsible units that are initiated by the management of change process, engineering work requests, and unit PHA revalidations

  • Initiate and implement plant & process changes using the Management of Change process

  • Integral to planned and un-planned outages providing troubleshooting, shutdown support, initial/final process equipment inspections, found work, and startup support

  • Lead/participate in responsible units Root Cause Analysis and incident investigations applying Intelex and ProAct methodology

  • Provide support to evaluate, generate and identify feasibility of Engineering Investigations (EI’s) based on personnel safety, process safety, process reliability, unit efficiency, and profitability

  • Develop & communicate Process Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for responsible units

  • Work effectively with the Operations team to troubleshoot process deviations, inefficient operations and make continuous improvements to plant safety, reliability and efficiency

  • Aligns with all HS&E requirements in the performance of this Position's responsibilities

  • Support the development of other unit contact engineers by coaching & mentoring

  • Ensure all small projects and MOC’s are implemented safely and efficiently and closed out

  • Lead and complete multi-disciplinary initiatives in safe and timely manner

  • Compiling technical reports to support the implementation of MOC’s and large projects

  • Review and update datasheets, P&IDs and Line designations for all MOC’s and small projects

  • Provide unit contact engineering support during Major Turnarounds & other plant outages & working extended hours (including weekends & afterhours)

  • Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to identify & resolve plant reliability and process efficiency deviations

  • Review and update Safe Operating Limits (SOL’s) for designated units

  • Perform and report on initial Feasibility Studies for Engineering Investigation notifications

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelors degree in any Engineering discipline, preferably Chemical, Process, or Petroleum Engineering

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA/APEGS

  • Experience with HYSYS refining simulation software or equivalent would be considered an asset

  • Knowledge of ASME, API, and SBB codes and regulations would be considered an asset

  • 4-8 years of experience in heavy industrial environment, preferably in Oil & Gas

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
