The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, permanent, Environmental Services Supervisor. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services, the Environmental Services Supervisor will be responsible for human resources functions such as the recruitment of Environmental Service Attendants, participation in ongoing monitoring of staff performance and the discipline process. You will assist in preparing and maintaining the schedule for staffing and supporting the payroll process. You will participate in education and staff training, when required, as well as participate in departmental quality improvement programs and Strategic Planning.

You will provide input related to staffing levels, assist in preparation and control of departmental budgets; conduct computerized continuous quality improvement audits and coordinate all applicable training as required. You will update work routines; conduct orientation training and in-service training on policies, work procedures, and demonstrate safe operation and maintenance of specialized cleaning equipment. You will conduct safety audits and ensure staff comply with safety procedures and protocols as well as enforce WHMIS regulations and guidelines as they relate to the Health and Safety Act. You will ensure compliance of Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) best practices for environmental cleaning and work closely with Infection Control teams. It is essential that you provide excellent customer service, administer the collective agreement and act on behalf of management in case of grievances. You will be required to provide leadership and knowledge in handling emergency (code) situations; maintaining material and supply inventory, responsible for waste management programs and training. You will coordinate building and equipment repairs as required with the maintenance department and/or outside vendors. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and effectively communicates. The successful incumbent may need to work weekends and statutory holidays as needed. This position is Dayshift Monday - Friday at the Queen Street site.

The successful candidate will possess a Grade 12 education. Completion of, or enrollment in, Professional Healthcare Housekeepers’ certificate is required. Member in good standing of the Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association is also required. You must have a minimum of 3-5 years supervising staff in a unionized health care setting. Experience at a large mental health or addictions hospital is preferred. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and developing goals as well as meeting deadlines/timeframes is essential. Strong customer service skills; communication, problem solving, coaching, decision making, team-building and conflict resolution skills are required. This position also requires a positive, helpful attitude and excellent interpersonal skills. Strong leadership skills and proven ability to make decisions quickly and deal professionally with a diverse group of patients and staff is essential. Working knowledge of computers, Internet, and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word or related programs is required. You must be able to effectively communicate work instructions and expectations to staff (verbal and written) and monitor quality of work. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
