The Crisis Critical Care Unit 5 is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (1 year) Occupational Therapist to work within the Crisis and Critical Care Building. Reporting to the Manager, you will be a member of the inter-professional team, responsible for providing therapeutic interventions for clients referred within in the Adult Inpatient Service, primarily the Crisis and Critical Care Building. As an Occupational Therapist you will be working toward enabling clients through assessment, treatment and rehabilitation; and to engage in structured activities, programming and skill building to support recovery goals and discharge planning. Using evidence-based interventions, clients are provided with specialized psychiatric and discipline-specific assessment and treatment. This role includes facilitation of therapeutic, skills-based and psycho-educational groups within the inpatient unit. You will provide client-centered care that maintains the COTO standards.

The successful candidate will conduct various assessments related to your role as Occupational Therapist including mobility assessments, as well as psychiatric, functional and cognitive assessments. You will be responsible for formulating treatment plans, monitoring the response of clients to therapeutic interventions and supervising Occupational Therapy students. The Occupational Therapist will provide a range of treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation services for individuals including: initial assessments to determine clients’ functional abilities and needs; follow up assessments to determine response to treatment/rehabilitation, and individual counselling to support clients’ recovery/psychosocial goals and needs. Coordination and facilitation of group programming within the inpatient unit will also be required. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1051 Queen Street West.

You must be registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). You must possess a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Master’s degree in OT, Rehab Sciences or a related field), combined with a preferred three (3) years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness. You must also have membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and be a holder of COTO’s pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance. You also must be eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH. You have strong group facilitation skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work within the inter-professional teams and to engage with clients, family members, and community care providers. Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
