The Geriatric Mental Health Services is currently seeking a part-time, permanent Registered Nurse to work in GAU-A. As a member of an inter-professional team, you will provide client-centered mental health, addiction and general nursing care to older individuals from diverse backgrounds with mental health and addiction issues. As well, you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards, Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and Gerontology, CAMH Policies and Procedures, and with the CAMH Practice Model of Care. You will be expected to perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the inter-professional plan of client care for older adults with complex mental health and addiction issues, with associated behavioural challenges, that may be complicated by physical health problems. You will liaise with other services within the Geriatric Mental Health Services and with community agencies to coordinate care for clients. You will be expected to utilize critical thinking, a problem solving process and customer service in your approach to care and service delivery. You will be responsible for contributing to program development; participate in clinical supervision; and provide education, support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Additionally, you will be expected to co-facilitate various client groups. As an RN, your skills include the ability to perform assessments, including mental status, behavioural, and physical; monitor client responses to pharmacological and other interventions, and to effectively communicate with team members. You will have sound knowledge of Gerontology and geriatric mental health nursing. In addition, you will have sound knowledge on crisis intervention, addictions, and trauma-informed care. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements. This position involves shift and weekend work. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate must be a registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing, a BScN, CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or Gerontology. You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship, provide family sensitive care, and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to provide effective behavioural support and to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Knowledge of normal aging processes, geriatric mental health, geriatric treatment modalities and addiction issues is required. Mental health and psychiatric nursing experience with seniors with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
