The INTREPID Lab is a hub for research and health services programing on nicotine addiction. Our goal is to synthesize and discover new knowledge in the treatment of nicotine addiction, validate technology-mediated methods and processes for delivering treatment and use these methods to scale up research discoveries to health services programs through our network of over 300 primary- and community-care partner organizations. In meeting its objectives, the INTREPID Lab works with technology vendors, in addition to creating its own technology-based methods and protocols, for research and subsequent integration into health services programs.

The service is seeking two (2) full-time, temporary (6 month) Registered Nurses to support a provincial initiative addressing addiction treatment for youth, specifically focused on nicotine, vaping, substance use, problem gambling, and technology use. Reporting to the Manager and working closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team and project team, you will provide client-centered addictions, mental health, and general nursing care, while ensuring safety, security, and compliance with the CNO standards of nursing practice. Your responsibilities will include performing assessments, developing, implementing, and evaluating inter-professional care plans for clients. Additionally, you will collaborate with other services within the Addictions Program and community agencies to coordinate care for clients, monitor responses to medications, and manage co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. The role requires working with diverse client populations, contributing to program development, providing educational support and supervision to students, and participating in the research activities of the program.

As part of this role, you will also consult and collaborate with a Virtual Care Team (VCT) on a weekly basis to assist participants in navigating appropriate care providers and resources. You will coordinate and facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, psychoeducational sessions, case management, assessments, and referrals. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, research staff, and people with lived experience, you will contribute to project deliverables such as developing resources, preparing project updates, and conducting education sessions. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

The successful candidates will have an understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles in both clinical treatment and research and will be committed to being respectful, ethical, culturally sensitive, and mindful of best practices related to research and evaluation. The successful candidates will also support a healthy workplace that values diversity, promotes teamwork, and complies with all applicable policies, regulatory standards, and legislative requirements. The position is based at 1025 Queen Street West, and evening hours may be required.

The successful candidate must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and hold a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification. Two years of nursing experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing, a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong nurse-client relationships and work effectively within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are essential. You should have the ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations that require managing disturbed behavior. Previous experience in addictions and/or mental health nursing, along with knowledge of smoking cessation and addiction treatment modalities, is required. Experience working with clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds is also necessary. Computer literacy is required, and bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
