On November 30, 2024, 9-8-8 was launched in Canada as a new national three-digit number for suicide prevention and emotional distress. In 2022, CAMH was announced as the lead for the coordination and administration of 9-8-8, and has acted in this capacity to lead and coordinate the implementation of 9-8-8 and manage the operations and post-launch activities. As of November 2023, this ground-breaking new service is available 24/7/365, in English and French, and accessible to everyone from coast to coast to coast. CAMH is working closely with the federal government and key partners from different groups and communities, provinces, territories and building on our work on Talk Suicide Canada, to deliver this high quality, evidence-based, equitable suicide prevention service to Canada.
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (15 months) Research Manager to support 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline, and a range of interrelated research and evaluation projects in the area of suicide prevention and virtual care. The research and evaluation team employs a range of methodologies, from qualitative to quantitative, and mixed-methods, including narrative and arts-based methods. We value engaging with people with lived experience and families/friends/caregivers, patient-engaged research and research that advances equity and inclusion. Research and evaluation projects relating to 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline are the cornerstone of this portfolio.
Research and evaluation dimensions of 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline include evaluating user experience, the intervention, and the implementation of 9-8-8. Our projects include working to establish best practices in intervention, evaluate opportunities for improving equity of services, exploring the needs and preferences of diverse populations, and exploring relevant intersections with digital health and AI. In all our work, we seek to understand and engage the perspectives of people with lived and living experiences. The Research Manager will work closely with all 9-8-8 work streams to oversee not only related evaluation and knowledge translation projects, but also facilitate lived experience engagement activities.
The Research Manager will have functional reporting to the Principal Investigator/Chief Medical Officer of 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline, and will work in collaboration with the scientific and research staff to oversee and support the research and evaluation portfolio. The Research Manager will work closely with the Director: 9-8-8 Operations, and the 9-8-8: Suicide Crisis Helpline and Virtual Mental Health teams to ensure high quality and execution of projects in accordance with project deliverables. The successful candidate will have direct reporting to the Director, Clinical Research to ensure alignment to best practices in research administration and support.

Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate will work with the Research Operations, Services and Support Office to ensure alignment of research operations, meet and maintain institutional, regulatory standards and department requirements, including Legal, Information and Privacy Office, Research Ethics Board, Finance, People and Experience, Quality Assurance.
As a key member of the team, the successful incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively on projects with cross functional teams. The incumbent will champion and lead initiatives that support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable policies, procedures and legislation. This position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way, with travel between sites, as necessary.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in a related field (e.g. psychology, neuroscience, Health Sciences, Health Administration, Social Work, public health), at least 3 years of relevant research experience is required, and 3 years of progressive research leadership experience. Previous research or service with individuals and/or families with mental health is considered an asset. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following skills:
