Job Summary:
This position is within the City Planning Strategies Division of the City of Mississauga, Planning and Building Department. The City Planning Strategies Division is responsible for the City's long-range land use planning and the maintenance of databases supporting this function.
Mississauga has been conducting the annual employment survey since 2001. The data collected helps us support Planning and Building Department studies and initiatives; monitor economic conditions and employment across the city; forecast and plan for the provision of infrastructure, services and programs; understand long term economic trends; builds connections with local businesses and the creation of the Business Directory; and provide employment information to many of City’s departments and external organizations.
The successful candidate(s) will be representing the City of Mississauga performing the following functions:
- Assist with the annual employment survey - a survey of over 27,000 businesses
- Conduct face to face and telephone surveys to acquire employment and business information
- Perform daily in-person field verifications using ESRI Field Maps
- Assist with e-mail questionnaires and updating the employment databases
- Assist Policy Planners with special projects, updating existing land use inventories, as well as land use field reviews
- Participate in divisional meetings and attend Planning and Development Committee and Council meetings in order to gain an understanding of the municipal planning function
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current enrolment in a university coop program in urban planning, geography or a related field is required
- Excellent communication skills are essential
- Strong computer skills with data entry and large databases
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ESRI ArcGIS, and Google Earth would be an asset, knowledge of popular internet search engines and mapping tools are also an asset
- Experience working in a team environment is required
- Customer Service skills
*Position requires access to a car, minimum class "G" driver's licence and driving record that is acceptable to the City
Hourly Rate/Salary: $19.80 - $23.53
