Position Description

Reporting to the Lead Building Engineer and indirectly to the Building Operations Manager, the Building Engineer is responsible for the delivery of base building services to a high-profile historical downtown flagship store that may include multiple retail banners (ie Hudson’s Bay, Saks, etc.), concourse licensees that may include food & beverage operators, dedicated office space, unique event spaces that may include dedicated catering kitchens, etc.

You Also Have:

  • 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate or provincially-recognized equivalent
  • A minimum 2 years experience as a 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineer operating steam and/or boilers/chillers and familiarity with different HVAC systems; working knowledge of BAS systems; and experience with HVAC replacement and other related CapEx repairs
  • Experience in a retail environment is an asset
  • PC literacy and demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office, Google Documents, etc.
  • Superior knowledge of building operations, structures, engineering systems, architectural features, building codes, and operating regulations for public buildings
  • Knowledge of generally accepted facilities management principles and practice
  • The ability to perform shift work, including evenings and weekends, and be on call for critical emergencies

As The Lead Engineer, You Will:

  • Ensure daily operations are conducted with a strong commitment to customer service
  • Supervise all related third-party service provider activities
  • Ensure that all work orders are assigned and fulfilled appropriately; ensure value for proposed services and approve or escalate to the Lead Building Engineer or Building Operations Manager for approval; ensure work order notes are current and notify/escalate imminent repairs to appropriate authorities (store general managers or their designate/regional managers, etc.)
  • Perform and/or ensure routine building and equipment inspections and system testing are performed; maintain all maintenance logs, asset registers, and vendor service records
  • Ensure full compliance with all Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Legislation and Standards
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure the safety of the buildings, staff, and public from fire, flood, and other hazards by ensuring that all mandated tests and inspections are carried out while responding to emergencies and liaising with contractors and trades.
  • Identify deficiencies and proactively provide recommendations for equipment replacement and preventative maintenance, to ensure uninterrupted service

Qualifications

  • 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate or provincially-recognized equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a 2nd or 3rd Class Power Engineer operating steam and/or boilers/chillers and familiarity with different HVAC systems; proficiency with Building Automated Systems (BAS)
  • Experience with retail or other public facilities is an asset
  • Working knowledge of building operations, structures, engineering and mechanical systems, architectural features, equipment function, building codes and regulations for public buildings
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted facilities management principles and practice
  • Ability to manage multiple activities/projects simultaneously, work independently, and assess priorities to meet deadlines with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to promote and sustain positive relationships with internal and external customers, team members, and external contacts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to promote respectful and collaborative relationships and a team environment
  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
  • Pass the required security check
