Immediate supervisor : Coordinator of Complementary Educational Services

Nature of Work

The position of education consultant encompasses, in particular, responsibility for providing advice and support to staff of educational institutions and services in the implementation, development and evaluation of programs of study, class management and instructional materials.

Characteristic functions

  • Collaborate in the implementation of the educational and special projects of the schools.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the school's success plan, while respecting the educational and administrative frameworks at both school and school board level.
  • Collaborate in the implementation of curricula and training programs.
  • Advising teachers and management on curriculum interpretation.
  • To design and run workshops and training sessions relating to curricula.
  • Advising and supporting teachers individually and collectively in their day-to-day work.
  • Design or select and lead training and instrumentation activities to meet students' needs in terms of adaptation, innovation and pedagogical development.
  • Assisting in the design, development or adaptation of learning and assessment tools
  • Propose diagnostic assessment tools.
  • Participate with the multidisciplinary team, parents and students in developing and revising the individualized education plan (IEP) for students with disabilities or social maladjustments or learning difficulties.
  • Participate in the choice of objectives and means of intervention.
  • Support teachers in developing and implementing strategies and projects to help students with, or at risk of, adjustment or learning difficulties.
  • Support school teams in implementing universal best practice in classroom management and the design of learning environments.
  • Advising teachers and principals on issues relating to staff development programmes.
  • Planning staff development programmes and evaluating their results.
  • Analysing and advising on the selection of teaching materials, supplementary materials, equipment and specialised software.
  • Advising school staff on the allocation of technological aids as accommodation measures.
  • Collaborate on projects aimed at integrating technologies.
  • Develop and run training and information workshops on the elements of the technology integration programme.
  • Collaborate with other school stakeholders, partner organisations, Centres of Excellence and the Ministry of Education.
  • Travel to CSCQ schools in different regions when necessary.

Requested skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably education;
  • Special Education / Adaptation scolaire background and/or studies is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the Québec School System;
  • Knowledge of Competency Approach to Social Participation (CASP), Work-Oriented Training Path (WOTP) and other pathways (15+, 16+, Concomitance), Transition école-vie active (TÉVA) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLC), Response to Intervention (RTI), Neufeld Developmental Paradigm, Trauma-Informed School Practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the three forms of differentiated instruction (pedagogical flexibility, adaptation, modification) is essential;
  • Individualized education plan (IEP) Framework knowledge is essential;
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English and a good knowledge of oral and written French;
  • A valid teaching permit issued by the MEQ or eligibility to obtaining a teaching permit issued by the MEQ is a definite asset
