NATURE OF THE WORK:
The position of speech and hearing correction officer encompasses, in particular, responsibility for implementing the treatment and intervention plan developed by a speech therapist or audiologist focusing on prevention, screening, rehabilitation or reeducation intended for students experiencing or likely to experience hearing, language, speech or voice problems.
SOME CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
The speech correction and hearing correction officer participates in the implementation of speech therapy or audiology services while respecting educational and administrative frameworks, both at the school and school board levels.
Contribute to planning, executing, or supervising activities aimed at preventing communication problems or identifying communication difficulties, in collaboration with other involved stakeholders.
Participate with the multidisciplinary team in developing and revising the student intervention plan, integrating, where applicable, the speech therapy or audiology treatment and intervention plan; they participate in selecting intervention objectives and methods; they collaborate with other team members in coordinating interventions and evaluating goal achievement.
Intervene with a class or group of students experiencing common difficulties or with students facing specific challenges to facilitate their learning and social integration.
Advise and support teachers, explaining the nature of the student's communication difficulties so that they can adapt their teaching and educational materials used; inform them of the impact of these difficulties on student learning and social adaptation; ensure the development and adaptation of existing educational materials; contribute to the selection of means to aid oral communication.
Support and equip family members and other school stakeholders; provide relevant advice to develop attitudes and skills that promote the development of student communication; plan, organize, and conduct training, information, and awareness activities regarding communication difficulties.
Establish and maintain collaboration and relationships with partner organizations; communicate with other relevant stakeholders to obtain or provide advice and information; direct the student or their parents to appropriate resources based on the situation and needs.
Advise management staff, draft situation evolution reports, and make appropriate recommendations to support decision-making.
Prepare and ensure the updating of records according to the rules defined by the school board; write progress notes or reports at various stages, end of process, and follow-up reports on their interventions.
