SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who participates in the identification of the needs of the population and implements the various community action programs. They act as a resource person for individuals or groups.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS* Intervene with residents of the Mistissini Elders' home who encounter social problems (loss of autonomy, drug addiction, integration problems, suicide, etc.); * Acts as the case manager of the residents of the Mistissini Elders' home, when relevant;* Responds to crisis situations with residents in distress; * Promotes the integration of the family and social network into the elder's home resident life;* Reaches out to family and network of resident to involve them if possible in the day to day or care plan;* Participates in improving the living environment and maintaining harmonious relationship between residents;* Gathers information relevant to know residents' Life story and shares it to the team; * Organizes in collaboration with Elders' home Assistant to the Immediate Supervisor (AIS), interdisciplinary team meetings with resident and family, once a year or when significant changes or needs;* Does the psychosocial assessment of the residents;* Leads intervention plan meetings and co-creates the intervention plans;* Works in close collaboration with elder's home team members, especially AIS and cultural activity technician (CAT);* Participates in the Elders' home structure and activities: supports the CAT for the activities, supports harmonious relationship between residents;* Participates in the promotion and prevention opportunities for the residents of the Elders' home;* Participates with AIS and Wiichihiituwin for organization of travel to visit family or medical appointment or family to come visit;* Use different methods, approaches and techniques (individual interview, group facilitation, social activities, etc.) to intervene effectively with the residents and their family;* Receives and assesses service requests and refers them to the appropriate programs, services or resources; * Works in close collaboration with social services and external partners; * Establishes relationship with other organisms such as the band office, Youth council, etc.;* Partners with hospital social services and clinical advisor for complex cases;* May be supporting client's waiting placement at the regional hospital in Chisasibi;* Carries out other tasks usually assigned to this position upon the request of her/his supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Diploma of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques or another appropriate specialization from a school recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport;
- This job title also includes those who, after acquiring relevant experience, have a certificate of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques;
- Applicants with an attestation of college studies in Educators in Native Childcare Services or Special Needs Education aboriginal and Inuit children may be considered.
- Completed the Charlie Training and PCFI or is willing to follow the training.
Experience:
- Two (2) year of pertinent experience.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
- Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
- Ability to communicate with people, to run interviews and to establish and maintain a helping relationship with the users;
- Ability to build trust relationship with partners and residents;
- Skills in counseling and knowledge or willing to learn the laws: Y.O.A., Y.P.A., L.H.S.S.S;
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work in collaboration with external partners within and outside the community;
- Good capacity for stress management and crisis management;
- Interest and ability for paperwork and written reports;
- Empathetic and understanding of families and human relations;
- Initiative, dynamism and sense of responsibility;

- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
LANGUAGE* Fluency in Cree and English;
* Fluency in French is an asset.
OTHER
- Must be available to work occasionally outside the regular working hours;
- Possibility of having 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM schedule (as per residents' routine);
- Possibility of on-call periods.
