SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who is responsible for one or more programs with a view to providing professional assistance for the development of services. She/he conducts research activities that are necessary for identifying and assessing needs and resources. She/he designs and proposes development plans and programs in order to ensure adequate service planning. She/he provides advice concerning the implementation or improvement of programs and/or services. She/he may participate in various teaching or training activities.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of DYP and in collaboration with the YP coordinators, HROs as well as first and second line services, the incumbent: * Prepare development programs for the youth protection teams;* Is responsible to develop the yearly calendar of training for the department of Youth Protection, and to supervise and support its implementation in all communities;* Makes links with other resources in the community to provide different programs to youth protection workers;* Develops and implements the orientation program of youth protection workers; * Ensures that the youth protection workers are up to date on the knowledge and comprehension of the different laws, guidelines and acts governing their action; * Develops tools to support the implementation of policies and procedures;* Provides expertise on Case assessment, Family counselling and communication of sensitive information;* Ensures the implementation of collaborative protocols or agreements such as the joint clinical process between YP and YHS, and such as the protocol for collaboration between YP and First line services (CMC);* Assumes all other tasks at the request of his/her superior.

REQUIREMENTS
Education: * Bachelor degree in social science, science, administration or management, or another appropriate discipline; * A master's degree in a social science is an asset.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of appropriate relevant experience in working with youth and their families in a well-defined clinical intervention;
  • Experience with the youth protection department;
  • Experience in training adults and in program development will be an asset.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Good up-to-date knowledge of legislations, mainly Youth Protection Act and Youth Criminal Justice Act;
  • Good knowledge of the court and judicial system;
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, adapting, developing and implementing training programs, and maintaining existing programs;
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering training to staff, both group sessions and individual coaching;
  • Experience working with individuals, families and community organizations;
  • Knowledge of the issues and context surrounding youth and family development in First Nation northern communities;
  • Knowledge of the resources and services available in Eenou/Eeyou;
  • Ability to integrate Eenou/Eeyou (Cree) culture, values, traditions and teachings into programming;
  • Knowledge of First Nation health/social service models, trends and issues is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, language, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
  • Ability to work in collaboration in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Possess leadership skills in working with individuals and groups;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, planning and decision-making skills;
  • Must be autonomous and flexible;
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications, especially Microsoft Office.

LANGUAGE* Fluent in Cree and English;* Fluency in French is an asset.

OTHER* Willing to travel in the nine communities;* Possibility of on-call.
