Job Description

HOMEMAKING RESPONSIBILITIES IN GENERAL:

Participates in evaluating care and/or services provided by the Irene Baron Eden Centre to Elders under the Quality Management Program. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains all work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Follows manufacturers’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals. Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the Supervisor or designate. Completes Occurrence Reports when a safety issue has been identified. Knowledge of home procedures for fire and environmental safety. Performs duties in accordance with infection control procedures/guidelines. Respects Elders’ rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner. Adheres to “Standards of Employee Conduct”, “Bill of Rights”, and the Quality Care Standards of the Irene Baron Eden Centre. Works closely and cooperates with other staff and Elders. Maintains good working relationships with all neighbourhoods in the home. Participates in committees, care planning and neighbourhood meetings as required. Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills. Attends in-service sessions and conferences as required. Maintains a satisfactory level of health and physical fitness so that regular attendance at work can be maintained. Performs other related duties as assigned.

HOMEMAKING RESPONSIBILITIES and Duties:

Elder Services

  • Provides medication reminders from pre-measured, pre-packaged medication, and assist with non-prescription medications as needed.
  • Provides cuing, direction and assistance as needed with personal supports, hygiene, and safe ambulation.
  • Provides cuing and as needed assistance with toileting.
  • Provides cuing and direction for self management of incontinence.
  • Ensures documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Participates and provides Life Enrichment programs

Environmental Services

  • Ensures Elders suite and common areas are maintained in a safe and clean condition, encouraging Elders participation as appropriate.
  • Provides laundry service to the Elders weekly; encourage families in the participation of laundry.
  • Participates in the preparation and in the delivery of meals and snacks to Elders
  • Ensures safe food handling practices.

Eden Focus

  • Creates, encourages and provide solutions to the three plagues: Boredom, Loneliness, Helplessness

Safety and Health

  • Answers Elder’s pages for assistance from their suites as required
  • Initiates emergency procedures as per policy.
  • Works in a safe manner, following all OH&S (facility and provincial) guidelines, safe work procedures and using proper body mechanics
  • Ensures the safe storage of chemicals and supplies in neighborhood as per WHMIS
  • Reports, documents and provides follow up on repairs within the Home
  • Conducts in a manner that is respectful, courteous and empathetic when engaging Elders, team members and families.

Administrative

  • Adheres to PHIA when discussing personal information
  • Adheres to facility guidelines and policies
  • Ensures the safe, economical and efficient use of resources and supplies.
  • Assumes personal responsibility
  • Mentors and supports new team members
