The Curriculum Coordinator will work directly with students and staff in both elementary and secondary schools, under the guidance and support of the Director of Teaching and Learning. Curriculum instruction incorporates a number of different teaching styles (i.e. small group, whole group, one-on-one) and requires the successful candidate to be a regulated role model to work in a variety of capacities each day. A Curriculum Coordinator must think on their feet, problem solve on the spot, and work flexibly and collaboratively with the whole team to create an environment that supports successful teaching and learning. A Curriculum Coordinator will support teaching and administrative staff in implementing the new Alberta Science and Social Studies curriculums, including leading professional development. The Curriculum Coordinator is also the CAREERS NextGen liaison and works with both CAREERS and FMPSD staff and students in support of career education and opportunities. As the APPLE Schools liaison the Curriculum Coordinator will liaise between APPLE Schools and FMPSD and act as a support and resource for staff and administration in support of healthy schools.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would possess the following background, philosophy, and experience:

Bachelor of Education Degree.

Familiarity with Alberta curriculum.

Deep understanding of pedagogical approaches based on best practices.

Effective organizational skills.

Ability to build strong relationships.

Experience in facilitating professional learning and development for staff.

Ability and proficiency with a variety of educational technology applications, including Google Apps.

Demonstrates commitment to collaborative practice and teamwork.

5 years or more teaching experience.

Ability to be self-directed is essential.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

Proven school-based leadership.

Knowledge in budget monitoring and management.

Understanding of Division policies and practices would be an asset.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Direct reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning on Alberta Education curriculum updates and timelines for new implementation.

Liaise between CAREERS NextGen and FMPSD.

Host a Division Career Fair and other career related events and workshops.

Liaise between APPLE Schools and FMPSD.

Be the point of contact for schools with questions related to being a Healthy School.

Facilitate staff development.

Support teachers in the implementation of effective research-based intervention strategies.

Support teachers in making connections between educational research, theory and classroom practice.

Support and build capacity with school teams in instructional and assessment practices.

Represent Division on provincial/local committees.

Other duties as assigned.
