Detailed Overview

The Coordinator, Medical Administration Mental Health & Substance Use Services (MH&SUS) supports the Program Medical Director, Mental Health & Psychiatry, and the Program Medical Director, Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services, in the management, support, and administration of medical service issues, and the overall development, leadership and management of medical issues for MH&SUS acute, community, tertiary and special services and programs, to support effective patient care management across Fraser Health. Enables the management and administrative aspects related to physician resources to support the mission, philosophies and goals of Fraser Health.
Responsibilities


  1. Participates in planning, directing, and coordinating the development and implementation of effective, policies, practices, systems and programs for the program areas, in collaboration with the Program Medical Director (PMD).
  2. Develops, in conjunction with the PMD, Mental Health & Substance Use (MH&SUS) Regional Division Heads (RDH) and MH&SUS Local Department Heads (DH/L), short and long term goals and objectives for program areas that support the mission, philosophies and goals of Fraser Health.
  3. Participates in engaging Physicians in MH&SUS planning and strategic initiatives, in conjunction with the PMD.
  4. Maintains a capacity inventory reflecting current psychiatric departmental infrastructure by community/site including current and future medical manpower needs, medical leadership and vacancies.
  5. In conjunction with the PMD, Regional Division Heads, and Local Department Heads, actively participates in contracting and credentialing of all MH&SUS physicians as well as oversight of the MH&SUS physician budget.
  6. Enhances MHSU communications internally and externally in collaboration with PMD through the development of proposals, briefing notes and business cases regarding issues within the portfolio.
  7. Assists the PMD in the identification and development of initiatives and programs including the review and development of alternatives to healthcare delivery practices and procedures, in support of the effective and efficient utilization of resources for the portfolio.
  8. Assists the PMD, with respect to medical issues, on various agencies, ministries, regions, as required.
  9. Responds to internal and external agencies, ie. College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, as required
  10. Participates in the research and development of proposals regarding MH&SUS medical staff issues in collaboration with the PMD.
  11. Assists with quality initiatives and quality reporting in relation to medical service delivery within the program.
  12. Participates on assigned internal and external committees as required and works collaboratively with the PMD.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a health related discipline supplemented by 5 to 7 years recent related experience in a management leadership role or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Working knowledge of Fraser Health''s MH&SUS physician resources. Experience in the physician resource planning and the development of healthcare proposals.
