Fraser Health, Surrey Memorial Hospital & Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre is inviting applications for a Specialist Consultant Gastroenterologist. We are enhancing our gastroenterology services to provide best quality care to both the Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) inpatient population and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care & Surgery Centre (JPOCSC) ambulatory population. The successful candidate must have therapeutic endoscopy training with sub-specialization training to include both therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP). The Gastroenterologist will be a member of the FHA Regional Division of Gastroenterology and the SMH Department of Medicine and share in the SMH and Regional Gastroenterology call rota.

 

The SMH Department of Medicine delivers a board variety of services in patient care. At SMH, a full range of subspecialist support is provided in intensive care, cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, neurology, respirology, geriatrics, and rehabilitation medicine.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide clinical service duties as a Gastroenterologist.
  • Maintain highest standards of best clinical and professional practice.
  • Maintain strong collegial links with other Gastroenterologists, members of the Department of Medicine, Emergency Department, and with Hospitalists involved in the daily care of medical patients.
  • Provide leadership in development of patient management strategies and other projects.
  • Participate in appropriate staff, department meetings and committees.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, mentorship, and teaching of medical students and residents.
  • Provide on call coverage within established on call roster.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be eligible for University appointment and must have FRCPC certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. They must have licensure (or eligible to have licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (BC). Applicants with Gastroenterology therapeutic endoscopy training (in particular, therapeutic EUS and ERCP) are encouraged to apply.

Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is a brand new, state-of-the-art out-patient facility in Surrey, BC and provides ambulatory and surgical daycare services as well as many specialized clinics such as anticoagulation and chronic pain, breast health, chronic disease management for diabetes, cardiac and lung health with lab, medical and diagnostic imaging and pharmacy services.

Surrey Memorial is a 611 acute care bed, University of BC Affiliated, regional referral and community teaching hospital that has the busiest emergency in BC. We offer medical, surgical, neonatal intensive care, tertiary, ambulatory, cardiology, rehab, as well as 24/7 emergency services with 158,558 visits annually. We currently manage 4,200 births per year and have recently opened a new tower with a 46 bed single room maternity care unit, a 48 bed single room Level 2/3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated maternal operating room. The brand new ER includes a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, part of the state-of the art Critical Care Tower includes a dedicated perinatal centre, helipad and expanded ICU.
