Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Manager

General Responsibilities: Reporting to the QHSE Director of Canada, the QHSE Manager at the Lapointe plant plays a crucial role within the management team and is responsible for achieving certain quality and safety objectives.

QHSE Task Description:

  • Policy and Procedure Management: As the QHSE Manager of the plant, you will create, implement, and maintain the facility’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with QHSE management systems and relevant regulations. Your primary goal is to reduce injuries among site team members. You will collaborate with process engineering and the plant management team to provide technical support and expertise on QHSE issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: You will interpret applicable regulations and prepare action plans to ensure continuous compliance with all permits, regulations, and environmental requirements of your facility.
  • Team Engagement and Safety Culture: You will align with programs that promote team member engagement and behavior-based safety processes to foster a Zero and beyond culture, working closely with the plant management team.
  • ISO Certifications: You will lead and maintain ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications at your plant, conduct and assist with internal and external QHSE audits, and meet with regulators during facility inspections and audits as needed.
  • Safety Committees and Communication: You will lead the site’s safety committees.
  • You will collaborate with the process engineering manager, reporting all QHSE indicators and company data requests.
  • Support and Best Practices: You will provide technical support and share best practices to continuously improve the plant’s QHSE performance.
  • Incident Reporting: You will oversee the security incident reporting process in partnership with the plant management team.
  • Training Needs Analysis: You will collaborate with the plant management team to assess training needs.
  • Meeting Participation: You will work with the plant management team, participate in key QSSE team meetings, Kaizen/Gemba events, and other essential meetings.
  • Quality Management: Responsible for establishing, implementing, leading, and maintaining the quality management system.
  • ISO Initiative and Client Interaction: Maintain the plant’s ISO initiative representatives and regulatory bodies during planned and unplanned plant visits.
  • Audit and Complaint Process: Manage the internal audit process and support process engineering to handle customer complaints.
  • Equipment Inspections: Conduct inspections for all testing and manufacturing equipment to ensure compliance with company safety regulations.

Who We Are Looking For:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, or a technical diploma in quality, health, safety, and environment combined with an undergraduate degree or similar.

Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including expertise in government compliance, occupational health and safety, risk analysis and process-related risks, problem source evaluation, incident management, standards and procedures development, and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 audits.

Language Skills: Proficiency in French and English (both spoken and written).

Technical Skills: Proficiency in technologies such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other standard computer applications. Previous knowledge and experience with SAP is an asset.
