Position Summary:
Working under the direction of the primary teacher and the supervision of the school Principal, you will work directly with students to provide a wide range of academic assistance, monitoring behavior and facilitating integration in the classroom and school environment.
No two days will be the same-you will be called on to facilitate student learning individually or in small groups, document daily progress, support students in learning social behavior or life skills, supervise during recess and lunch plus organize classroom items. In this variety-filled role, you may also attend meetings with teachers, parents and therapists, and assist with supervision during recess and lunch. After school bus supervision run is included in this position.
The position is needed during our academic block, math and reading. Math is a program called Saxon Math. The reading program involves Read Well. Both of these programs are heavily scripted, all that is involved is following the guidelines for that day’s instruction which will be set up in advance by the Primary teacher.
Thorough training will be provided in order to implement our reading and math programs with fidelity. Demonstrating teamwork and additional Extra Curricular activities while supporting staff with fundraising events that will include a year-end field trip will be a beneficial commitment in the position.
Qualifications:
Completion of grade 12, previous experience working with young children, physically capable of performing the job duties, completion of college or university program in the area of school community support, social service, or education assistant is an asset.
The ability to work effectively with a full range of students, including students with special needs. Strong communication skills and ability to complete job duties with minimal supervision.
In accordance with provincial regulations applicants must pass a criminal records check.
