As an OHS and Environment Advisor, you'll be at the forefront, creating a safer working environment while inspiring teams in the field. You'll work directly on mine and industrial sites, collaborating closely with operators and managers to identify and correct hazards before they escalate into problems.

With a 60% field approach, you'll establish yourself as a trusted leader, capable of anticipating needs and providing concrete solutions.

You’ll be able to assess complex situations, communicate effectively with diverse teams, and transform challenges into opportunities for improvement.

The position is based in Labrador-City-Fermont, with frequent travel to Baie‑Comeau and Sept‑Îles.

More specifically, the OHS and Environment Advisor's main responsibilities are to:

Management of health and safety systems

  • Participate in the review and improvement of OHS management systems in compliance with applicable standards, laws and regulations.
  • Develop, recommend and implement programs to foster an OHS culture within the company
  • Disseminate relevant OHS information and promote company objectives to employees

Implementation of policies and procedures

  • Review and implement programs, policies, and processes to eliminate OHS risks
  • Ensure OHS procedures comply with laws and regulations (including WHMIS)
  • Manage and maintain the CORE certification process specific to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador

Risk prevention and management

  • Adopt a proactive approach to identifying, assessing, and correcting OHS risks
  • Maintain a risk register and ensure that controls are in place to reduce critical risks
  • Support the implementation of safe workplaces by applying techniques such as 5S

Employee training and awareness

  • Ensure that managers and employees receive adequate OHS training
  • Integrate OHS training needs into the company's annual plan and oversee the development of employees’ OHS skills

Incident and near-mis management

  • Assist in investigating incidents and near misses, follow up on reports, and implement corrective measures
  • Ensure that lessons learned from incidents are shared and that OHS practices are continuously improved

Performance measurement and compliance

  • Participate in evaluating OHS program performance and ensure that improvement targets are met
  • Help establish and monitor OHS performance indicators by collecting and analyzing relevant data

Working conditions

  • Permanent position
  • Schedule of 42.5 h per week, Monday to Friday (between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.)
  • Service van available for site visits

Requested skills

  • College training in occupational health and safety or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years' experience as an occupational health and safety consultant
  • Excellent knowledge of the CORE certification process
  • Experience in an industrial, construction or mining environment
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety laws and regulations
  • Fluently bilingual, both written and spoken (French-English)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite software
  • Membership in the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP), is an asset
  • NLCSA Construction Safety Officer Designation (CSO), an asset
  • Holding an ASP Construction du Québec card, is an asset
  • Rigorous and organized
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to reconcile administrative tasks with field presence
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
