Against a backdrop of increasingly stringent environmental standards and growing expectations in terms of social responsibility, we are looking for a Senior Environmental Advisor to play a strategic role in the environmental management of our operations.

The aim of this position is to consolidate our environmental practices, support us in our continuous improvement projects, and ensure that the environment remains at the heart of our operational decisions.

Your role

As Senior Environmental Advisor, you will occupy a key role within the organization. You will be a driver of change, a strategic partner and a trusted expert in guiding our teams to adopt sustainable and compliant environmental practices.

Specifically, you will be required to:

  • Advise and support operations management, managers and crews in the interpretation and application of environmental laws, regulations and standards applicable to our marine and land-based activities.
  • Act as the environmental compliance contact for all our business units and vessels, in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.
  • Carry out risk analyses and environmental diagnoses for our operations and projects, in order to propose concrete, pragmatic solutions adapted to our operational reality.
  • Lead internal environmental audits, monitor corrective action plans, and ensure continuous improvement of environmental management processes;
  • Actively contribute to the development of policies, programs and tools to support our sustainable development commitments, including hazardous materials management, emissions reduction, protection of sensitive environments, etc.
  • Collaborate on innovation projects related to energy transition, fleet environmental efficiency or new technologies.
  • Maintain a regulatory and technological watch and propose proactive strategies to keep the company ahead of industry trends and requirements.
  • Plan and run training and awareness campaigns for employees at different levels, to reinforce the environmental culture in all areas of the organization.

Specifically, the Senior Environmental Advisor's main responsibilities are to:

  • Review and update environmental management systems for offices and vessels (policies, procedures, instructions, emergency plans) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the ISM Code, and ISO and TMSA standards
  • Coordinate the management of the Green Marine program in line with corporate objectives, develop and implement related policies and procedures and compile related data
  • Support superintendents in applying and monitoring the environmental management system
  • Support stakeholders in implementing management system procedures and ensuring compliance with environmental standards
  • Train office and sea staff in the implementation and monitoring of environmental systems
  • Ensure ships' compliance with environmental standards and regulations in preparation for external audits (customers, Transport Canada, port authorities, classification societies)
  • Identify and implement preventive and corrective measures to reduce environmental impacts
  • Work proactively with all stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental procedures
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of environmental performance indicators and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Collect and analyze environmental information, provide timely feedback and ensure annual review of environmental management systems
  • Participate in the investigation of environmental accidents, incidents and near-misses, and develop corrective measures to avoid their recurrence
  • Contribute to the identification of environmental risks and proactive risk management
  • Carry out internal and external audits and inspections, both on board ship and in shore-based functions
  • Develop the environmental emergency response system
  • Keep abreast of government environmental programs and support the company's environmental initiatives
  • Promote environmental initiatives within the company (recycling, reducing energy consumption, car sharing, etc.)
  • Contribute to the communication and application of environmental systems, policies and instructions

  • 5 hours per week, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Requested skills

Skills required

  • Knowledge of environmental management standards and systems and their implementation within a company
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in environmental management in a maritime environment
  • Diploma in environmental management (an asset)
  • Very good knowledge of various maritime regulations and industry standards
  • Excellent knowledge of various software packages
  • Fluent in written and spoken French
