Job Description
  • Coordinates the day to day management and operational activities of the OR in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager (PCM) and the perioperative team to ensure timely access to care and adherence to the OR Rules & Regulations
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues internal and external to the program to facilitate safe and timely patient flow
  • Works in partnership with the PCM to create a safe, evidence-based clinical environment for the perioperative team
  • Responsible for master scheduling for the department and the daily staffing assignment
  • Ensures adequate coverage of the department and liaisons with Day Surgery regarding weekly staffing
  • Responsible for payroll submission in collaboration with the PCM
  • Promotes the use of evidence based and best practice in collaboration with the Professional Practice Clinician (PPC) and PCM i.e.) ORNAC, CNO, CSA, NAPAN
  • Facilitates the learning needs of staff in collaboration with the PPC and PCM of OR/PACU
  • Assists the PCM with ongoing management of the Attendance Management Program
  • Participates in ongoing monitoring of quality indicators and identifying improvement strategies in consultation with the PCM
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the management of human and material resources
  • Assists the PCM with staff recruitment and the performance appraisal process
  • Provide direct patient care as required
  • Member of the OR Executive and Perioperative Care Committees
  • Represents the OR at formal and informal committees in consultation with the PCM
  • Accepts and completes projects as assigned
  • Actively participates as co-chair at all staff meetings
  • Facilitates communication with the MDR department and the OR technician to ensure timely access to equipment and instrumentation
  • Works with Shared Services West supply coordinator to ensure inventory and supplies are readily available
  • Coordinate daily surgical service activities and manage inventory and equipment

Qualifications
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BCLS required at time of hire
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education. BScN preferred or in progress.
  • Successful completion of post graduate OR course required
  • Perioperative Nursing Certification or willingness to obtain an asset
  • 3 - 5 years current O.R. experience required
  • Previous OR CRN (Specialty) experience an asset
  • Excellent communication skills - oral and written
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and leadership abilities
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence with an ability to support and lead others
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in conflict prevention and resolution
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change
  • Satisfactory attendance and employment record

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Sunday; Days 7.5 hour shifts 1600-2400 and every other weekend (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $43.25 to $60.15 per hour
