Job Description

The position is responsible for leading the digital communications team and all creative communications assets for Halton Healthcare including video production, graphic design, social media, photography and more. Responsibilities include leading strategic communications, plans and assets as it relates to the organization’s digital products.

The Digital Communications Lead is responsible for supporting the needs of Halton Healthcare as it pertains to digital media through a mix of strategy, tactical execution, reporting, storytelling and content development. This role requires an independent, experienced digital marketer who is savvy in social media, brand development and digital marketing best practices, loves to take initiative and has incredible attention to detail. You will execute succinct, engaging, goal-driven content, digital campaigns and manage owned channels (day-to-day social media and the production of videos and other multimedia materials/presentations as needed).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the strategic direction and integration of all digital media assets (website, intranet, social media, digital monitors, marquees, etc.) Ensure consistent and engaging messaging between all assets
  • Develop content strategies including risk assessments and mitigation strategies
  • Create an annual Digital Media plan - including content calendar - that aligns with the annual Communications Strategy
  • Develop stories in a variety of formats that drive meaningful storytelling, engagement, and growth (e.g., video), for social media that can be used by traditional media.
  • Oversee the implementation of brand guidelines to maintain a cohesive look and feel across all digital assets. Including reviewing and updating colour guides, production guides. Typography etc.
  • Monitor digital channels for performance, functionality, usability and enhancements and provide analysis.
  • Direct and produce media content (media journalism) for storytelling for internal and external digital communications channels (Twitter/X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) to ensure consistency in terms of style, quality, and tone of message and optimize for search and user experience across all channels.
  • Ensure media, digital content program and creative services meet key business and operational needs and priorities.
  • Create digital communications plans for CEO and senior leaders, provide training and sessions on use, brand management and engagement
  • Produce and/or organize media assets as required, including b-roll and photography
  • Stay on top of trends, programs, apps and opportunities to maximize productivity and expand Halton’s digital footprint
  • Apply a lens of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in all digital communications
  • Create and maintain a social media calendar including campaigns, awareness days, staff profiles and more
  • Oversee look, feel and functionality of Connections, Halton Healthcare’s employee portal
  • Manage large and continuously growing social media accounts by scheduling posts, responding to comments and messages with on brand narrative, and engaging with followers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of digital media activities.
  • Analyze social media coverage and prepare regular reports on same.
  • Evaluate website analytics and recommend enhancements for the user experience
  • Maintain and store consent forms for patient, partner, caregiver stories
  • Participate in on call rotation, including scheduling team members for monitoring social media
  • Help to shape and build the digital team to align with industry best standards and evolving best practices
  • Play and active role in managing digital media in a crisis situation as an integral member of the department’s crisis communications team.
  • Build strong relationships to tell Halton’s story through front-line staff, community partners, leaders and key initiatives

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Marketing Communications, Digital Communications), or recognized equivalent, such as public relations/communications diploma from a recognized community college.
  • Must have minimum 5 years experience in public affairs or communications in health care or government.
  • Masters Degree and/or professional designation, e.g., ABC, APR, preferred but not required.
  • Ability to motivate creative people and lead the contracting and supervision of external creative suppliers and agencies.
  • Solid knowledge of marketing and public relations principles and practices.
  • Strong online and social media skills and working knowledge of print, broadcast media.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and manage contentious issues to resolution.
  • Highly developed strategic communications planning skills.
  • Superior project management skills and ability to balance and work to multiple production deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of branding, visual identify and graphic design.
  • Excellent critical thinking and judgement skills.
  • Superior story telling skills using words, images, audio and video and a keen understating of how to create content to inspire engage and educate.
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization in a fast-paced, high profile, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external partners, creative communications professionals both internal and external.
  • Highly articulate with strong verbal communications and presentation skills.
  • Experience working with a variety of technologies and platforms including social media, website and intranet content development and management.
  • An understanding of Ontario’s healthcare sector and/or best practices in public sector communications would be an advantage in this position.
  • Equipment operated on the job: computer, preferably Apple devices, Digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) Cameras
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Word, Power Point, Teams, Excel, Access, Outlook) Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, InDesign), Social Tracking Tools (i.e. Hootsuite)
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and a reliable insured vehicle to travel between all hospital sites.
  • Independent worker.
  • Flexibility to be on call outside of normal business hours.

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.5 hour day shift

Salary: $47.326 to $58.634 per hour
