The role of the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurse Clinician is a consultative one and is intended to collaborate with and support staff in non mental health areas of the hospital in their care and treatment of patients with behavioural and/or psychiatric/mental health concerns.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and within a team of psychiatrists, nurses and other allied health professionals
- Strong clinical assessment of mental health patients
- Provides consultation regarding complex patient care needs to nurses, physicians, and other members of the team within the Mental Health program.
- Applies advances knowledge to promote patient/family and staff learning/coaching about evidence-based practice in mental health.
- Leads/participates in relevant hospital wide best practice initiatives related to mental health patients
- Practices in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Expert working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Consent and Capacity issues.
- Good knowledge and understanding of appropriate local community resources.
- Excellent negotiation skills and knowledge of nuances required to facilitate discharge planning with this patient care population.
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- 3-5 years of recent experience functioning in a crisis or consultation role in a general hospital or specialized psychiatric facility.
- Excellent knowledge of Mental Health Legislation.
- Certification in Substance Use Treatment preferred
- Advanced knowledge in mental health specialty areas such as Eating Disorders, Addictions, Older Adult
- Excellent knowledge of community agencies and referral resources.
- Community experience in Mental Health considered an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of the de-escalation theory and technique.
- Keen awareness of cultural sensitivities.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
Hours: Monday to Friday- Days 0800-1600 (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $39.07 to $56.00 per hour
