Job Description
  • Level 2A Maternal Newborn Care

This includes care for pregnancies 34 weeks and greater, care for uncomplicated twin pregnancies, availability of Labour/birth/recovery/post-partum (LBRP) care for low risk women meeting specific criteria, dedicated postpartum bedrooms, and an operative birthing suite and recovery room on the unit. The Community Midwives of Halton provide midwifery care.

The Maternal Newborn program has 9 LBR/LBRP birthing rooms, 1 Recovery Room, 1 Operative Birthing Room, 14 postpartum rooms, availability of antepartum rooms and 6 Level 2A Special Care Nursery bassinets.

The Maternal Newborn program is located with convenient access to a 24 hour separate entrance and parking close by. The environment has natural light through windows or sky lights and provides features that support family presence and involvement throughout both public and patient areas including the provision of space and furniture upon which to sleep for partners. It is child and family friendly.

The successful applicant will provide prenatal assessment and triage and care to the pregnant woman throughout labour and birth including vaginal and Caesarean births. It will include roles and responsibilities in the operative birthing suit and recovery room right on the unit. Flexibility will be required to work in all areas of the unit including maternal and newborn care within the LBRP model.

Qualifications
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Minimum of 2 years recent perinatal experience required
  • Successful completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Provider program
  • Successful completion of the Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour course
  • Current Obstetric O.R. certificate and/or experience required
  • Completion of Perinatal Certificate preferred
  • Competency with vaginal exams during labour required
  • Proficient in venipuncture and IVs
  • Current Breastfeeding Certificate required
  • Demonstrated ability to assist and support breastfeeding women
  • Commitment to Family Centred Care
  • Dedication to continuing education
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

Additional Information

Hours: Monday-Sunday - Various rotating 12 Hour Shifts; 1930-0730/0730-1930 (hours subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $39.07 to $56.00 per hour
