Description
HHS is seeking talented Legal Counsel to join its growing and respected Legal Services Team. Reporting to the Director of Legal Services, Legal Counsel will have the opportunity to make a demonstrable impact and provide advice on a variety of clinical and corporate matters. The ideal candidate will have experience in health law and/or corporate/commercial law within a public hospital setting and a good understanding of Ontario’s privacy regime.
Responsibilities on the Legal Services Team include:• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts;
• Identify and address legal needs in support of the organization’s business and strategic initiatives, including: digital health and innovation, clinical and community collaborations, and capital projects;
• Provide legal advice and information pertaining to compliance, health law, and privacy;
• Support various stakeholders throughout HHS, including patient experience, IT, procurement, privacy, and research;
• Advise on healthcare professional matters;
• Provide legal risk management advice;
• Advise on the rollout of regulatory changes in the healthcare sector;
• Support policy development and implementation;
• Assist with the management of external counsel relationships and claims; and
• Cultivate strong stakeholder relationships.
1. Law Degree (LLB) from a recognized law school
2. Call to the Ontario Bar (Lawyer Licensed to Practice in Ontario)
3. Minimum 3-7 years of related legal experience
5. Working experience in the healthcare sector or other in-house experience an asset
6. Knowledge of Health Law and Privacy regulatory frameworks an asset
7. Knowledge of IT Law and Procurement Law an asset
8. Demonstrated initiative, independent thinking, conflict resolution and creative problem solving skills
9. Effective collaboration and team work, demonstrated professionalism and tact
10. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
11. Superior communication skills – written, verbal, presentation
12. High level of integrity and trust
