Associate Lawyer – Litigation

This firm is one of Hamilton’s longest-standing law firms, offering a full range of legal services to individuals, businesses, and institutions across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The Role:
We are looking for a Litigation Associate with 2-6 years of experience to join the team in Hamilton. This position will involve a mix of Estate Litigation (40%) and General Litigation (60%). You will have the opportunity to handle a wide range of complex and high-profile cases, work with a collaborative team, and gain exposure to various areas of law. The firm operates in a cloud-based environment, allowing for a flexible, modern work structure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and litigate cases related to estate disputes, including challenges to Wills and Powers of Attorney.
  • Handle general litigation matters, including commercial disputes, real property issues, shareholder disputes, breaches of contract, and negligence claims.
  • Participate in arbitrations, motions, and trials while providing sound legal advice to clients.
  • Work closely with senior partners to handle a diverse range of legal matters.
  • Maintain client relationships and contribute to the firm’s growth through business development efforts.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: Competitive, based on years of experience and billable target.
  • Bonus Structure: Earn additional bonuses for exceeding your billable hours target, achieving non-billable hour goals, and bringing in new business.
  • Billable Hours Target: 1400 total hours annually, with 1250 billable hours and 150 non-billable hours.
  • Hybrid Work Model: After 2-3 months in-office, work 2 days from home. There may be some flexibility as well.
  • Health Benefits: Full single coverage on day one (medical, dental, eye, etc.). Family coverage is available at a premium.
  • Vacation: 4 weeks of vacation, with flexibility for more based on years of experience.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario.
  • 2-6 years of experience in Estate Litigation and General Litigation.

  • Collaborative, client-focused attitude with a passion for learning and growth.
