Nurse Clinician - Educator

As a member of the health care team, the Education Clinician, teaches, plans, develops, implements and evaluates education and development programs to enhance clinical proficiency, quality improvement and team skills. Facilitates and expedites continuous learning and professional development through coaching and/or mentoring of staff and clients. Facilitates appropriate coordination of resources to meet identified education and development needs. 

The Education Clinician is assigned to support the child and youth mental health inpatient unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital.  The Education Clinician is a part of a corporate education resource team also supporting central education programs and must be able to work at all sites of Hamilton Health Sciences. 


Qualifications

1. Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.

2. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. Master’s degree preferred

3. Recent acute inpatient child and youth mental health nursing experience of a minimum of 2 years.

4. Recent experience in acute pediatric and ambulatory nursing in a tertiary care facility of a minimum of 2 years.

5. Clinical focus and expertise in the area of Child and Youth Mental Health with training in the following modalities: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Emotion Focused Treatment modalities (I.e. Emotion Focused Skills Training, Emotion Focused Therapy) preferred.

6. Training and experience in comprehensive pediatric mental health risk assessments within the last 2 years preferred.

7. Minimum 1 year recent experience in adult education within the last 2 years

8. Demonstrated experience as a preceptor of staff and/or students

9. Demonstrated proficiency in the mentoring and development of staff

10. Demonstrated experience in evaluation of learning activities specific to individual, team and organizational performance

11. Evidence of ability to develop, conduct and evaluate educational programs to learners from a variety of health care disciplines

12. Demonstrated competencies in team building, organizational skills, leadership and presenting/managing change in a positive manner

13. Demonstrated ability to implement, coordinate, and manage large projects and initiatives

14. Demonstrated ability to deal efficiently and effectively with conflicting demands in a fast paced, complex environment

15. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving skills

16. Evidence of continuous commitment to ongoing education

17. Current BLS certification

18. Current PALS certification
