Description

The Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHCNP) will be a Registered Nurse with an Extended Class license, be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and will work within the scope of practice of the PHCNP provided by the College. Expertise in Women’s Health and Obstetrical Care would be an asset.

The Nurse Practitioner at the Maternity Centre functions as the key role within the interdisciplinary team. We embrace a patient-centered model of care, and are responsible for providing personalized and comprehensive maternity care to a large population of low to medium medical risk women. Specific responsibilities include prenatal, postpartum and newborn health care services consisting of independent patient assessments, consultations, treatment, test result analysis, referral, conflict resolution, as well as in hospital rounds/discharge planning for patients. The Nurse Practitioner will also tutor, mentor, and supervise family medicine residents, clerks, and nurse practitioner students as appropriate.

Qualifications

1. Certificate of Registration in the Extended Class from the College of Nurses of Ontario, and eligible to practice as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
2. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR or equivalent
3. 3 to 5 years’ experience in a primary care environment
4. Expertise in Obstetrics preferred
5. Proven interpersonal, team, and communication skills
