Communicative Disorder Assistant

Location: Trent River Public School, Trenton

Schedule: 35 Hours per week

Salary: $25.45 - $29.40 per hour

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) serves approximately 15,000 students each day at 40 in-person schools (33 elementary, one K-12; four 7-12, two secondary) and two virtual schools (K-8 and 9-12). Supporting student achievement is the goal of approximately 1,800 teaching and support staff who, along with the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, share their passion for teaching and learning.

The district covers a wide geographic area of 7,220 square kilometers bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south, and Quinte West. The Hastings Prince Edward region offers world-class beaches, boating, plentiful outdoor venues and activities, and award-winning wineries and micro-breweries. The City of Belleville and surrounding areas offer many festivals, restaurants and community events, as well as live music and theatre.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform duties under the guidance of the Speech Language Pathologists within the required scope of practice as outlined in the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) including: provision of speech and language intervention to students; carrying out speech, language and hearing screenings; train, model and support students, staff and parents with general oral language strategies, as well as assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication systems.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess at minimum a two-year college diploma with a specialty in health, community services or social services and the post-secondary graduate certificate Communicative Disorders Assistant, as well as six months of hands-on experience as a CDA. Successful applicants will possess effective communication, time management and problem-solving skills, strong computer skills, demonstrated ability to protect sensitive information and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Flexibility with hours of work may be required.
