Job Description:
Education
- Degree in Chemical Dependency studies or BSW are preferred.
- Additional Baccalaureate degrees (generally social sciences or human services) acceptable to the employer may also be considered if candidate has relevant experience. These would include a Bachelors in Psychology, Human Justice and Psych Nursing.
Experience
- Experience with group therapy and addiction assessments and interventions
- Clinical experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
- A strong knowledge of the best practices associated with treating substance dependence and/or substance dependence related issues and the effects on families and the community.
- Ability to accurately assess substance dependence and/or substance dependence related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.\
- Demonstrate the ability to accurately triage in order to provide the most appropriate service.
- Knowledge of screening and substance use assessment tools and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model and the Transtheoretical Model of Change.
- Knowledge of therapeutic tools such as Motivational Interviewing and CBT.
- Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and the role it plays in managing substance dependence harms.
- Empathy and respect necessary to engage, develop rapport and develop trusting relationships.
- Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
- Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
- Knowledge of and ability to monitor and assess withdrawal symptoms related to substance use.
- Efficient computer skills
- Knowledge of Cultural Diversity in working with and developing treatment plans.
- Demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills.
- Individual, group and crisis management/stabilization counseling skills.
- Ability to promote healthy lifestyles with diverse populations in urban and rural settings.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and the ability to implement these in clinical process groups.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
Other Information
- Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
