Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Nurse B $42.040 to $52.440
Job Summary: Reporting to the coordinator of assessment and counselling, the community mental health nurse is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include: utilize accepted nursing assessment procedures and techniques to aid in the understanding, treatment and management of youth and young adult clients in mental health & addictions services. Consults with psychiatrists and other team members to ensure optimum assessment & treatment for clients. Educate clients and families about mental illnesses, addictions and medications. Educate parents about developmental issues in the adolescent and early adult years. Provides information and referral to appropriate community resources as required. Provide families with support and direction in time of crisis. Function as a client advocate and provide care that reflects acceptance of client/family beliefs, culture, religious and socioeconomic background. Liaise with school systems to maintain youth in school. Liaise with government agencies to obtain vocational placement, funding, and home assessments.

Experience: Minimum of one year recognized experience in a community or acute mental health setting working with children and youth.
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Workplace Assessment and Violence Education certificate (WAVE)
Licenses
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
Other Education and Training
- Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable
- Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
- Nursing diploma is acceptable
