Job Description: The Community Outreach Nurse has responsibility for providing services & support to clients accessing services at the Methadone Assisted Recovery Program. Individual will also provide support to community partners within the multidisciplinary teams. The position is responsible to provide services to highly marginalized populations; including provision of appropriate nursing interventions. The incumbent provides information/education to a wide variety of disciplines across healthcare sectors and community partners. This individual must be able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team. This position may also be accountable for providing medical support for Calder Centre as required. Other responsibilities may include participating in policy and procedure development, maintaining program data bases, performing quality improvement, and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups of health professionals.

Experience
- Three (3) years direct experience in addictions field
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Other Education and Training
- Basic Life Support Level C Certificate (BLS-C)
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
- Workplace Assessment & Violence Education (WAVE)
- Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
- Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable
- Nursing diploma is acceptable

- Knowledge in methadone/methadone assisted recovery
- Knowledge in Provincial Addiction Clinical Model and DSM-4R

- Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary and community partnership program
- Ability to triage cases
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing/Assessment
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of concurrent medical, psychiatric and substance abuse
- Applied knowledge of Psychiatric/Psychological Disorders with substance abuse
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
- Applied knowledge of Psychiatric/Psychological Disorders of substance dependency
- Knowledge in Transtheoretical model of change
- Demonstrated high degree of accuracy is required of assigned responsibility
