Location: 90 Shuter Street – this position is mostly remote

Hours of Work: 5 days a week, 9 am – 5 pm

Salary Range: $118,000 to $147,000

The Director of Human Resources will manage the Human Resources department by ensuring staff agency-wide adhere to the mission statement, legal requirements, policies and procedures of the organization, and the Collective Agreement, while overseeing the administration and function of all employee-related aspects, including but not limited to recruitment/employment, training, policy development and implementation, employment law compliance, compliance with health and safety law, performance management and payroll functions. They will work closely with all other departments in the organization to ensure smooth cross-functional coherency and consistency of the Collective Agreement and all Homes First policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor the Human Resources team and provide guidance to key company roles
  • Create and administer various human resources plans and procedures for all employees, as directed by the CEO
  • Monitor employment and compensation regulations to ensure all HR practices are legally compliant, including workplace safety, equity laws, and employment laws
  • Subject matter expert on the Collective Agreement; which includes proposing, negotiating and reviewing of the Collective Agreement
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to help recruit, retain, train, and manage employees effectively
  • Manage the recruitment and application process, including orientation, advertisements, job posts, contracts, and offers of employment, making hiring plans and contribute to the organization’s mission and objectives
  • Respond to employee relation issues, including employee complaints, coaching, and counselling efforts and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions
  • Connect with outside individuals or agencies for hiring and staffing needs, training and development, legal services, and more when necessary
  • Keep data and statistics on employee records, HR protocols, and decision-making processes
  • Create communication strategies to ensure workplace safety, compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and agency regulations, and appropriate notice of organizational changes
  • Work closely with senior leadership on organizational priorities
  • Prioritize and assign duties to team members
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement and address grievances
  • Manage collective bargaining agreements
  • Create and ensure adherence to all Homes First Policy and Procedures
  • Ensure effective communications with other departments within Homes First Society as well as with external agencies
  • Manage employee performance and perform necessary administrative duties such as timekeeping, performance reviews, etc.
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed to agency standards
  • Other responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in Human Resources Management
  • At least 3 years of management experience in a unionized setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a similar discipline
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, standards and guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and organization skills
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to access and use a variety of information system tools to support the delivery of duties
  • Able to lift boxes up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to work outside of regularly scheduled hours to accommodate activities such as training, meeting and events
  • The successful candidate will be required, on a limited basis, to work where smoking is present.
