Salary range for these positions is $88,990 to $127,923. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Respectful Workplace Consultant (Consultant) is responsible for implementing appropriate alternate dispute measures to complex and/or sensitive workplace environment disputes. Demonstrating a high level of judgement in evaluating and mitigating legal and reputational risk to the organization, the Consultant ensures a consistent, fair, and unbiased approach when dealing with reports of workplace incivility, bullying and harassment, discrimination and discriminatory harassment that fall under the AU1000-Workplace Environment Policy.

The Respectful Workplace Program (RWP) aims to provide Interior Health managers and employees with a range of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services and training to effectively manage workplace conflicts. The Respectful Workplace Program promotes a culture of respectful dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding. The role takes a people-centered and trauma-informed approach in addition to a strategic focus to identify systemic factors that may be contributing to, or perpetuating, workplace conflict and require implementation of a broader response.

The Consultant provides knowledge and understanding in the application of trauma-informed approaches and inclusive, culturally safe practices, and must understand Truth and Reconciliation and key documents that support organizational transformation to one of cultural safety and humility. Documents include but are not limited to, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the In Plain Sight Report, the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls to Justice, The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples BC Act.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:
• Develops, implements, and evaluates a proactive and sustained Alternate Dispute Resolution process as part of the Respectful Workplace Program for Interior Health (IH), working collaboratively and collegially with Human Resources (HR) colleagues including HR Business Partners, Employee Experience, Organizational Development and Learning Development teams to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and cultural safety within the RWP.

• Interprets internal workplace environment policy and related legislation e.g. Human Rights, WorkSafe BC to assess scope of concerns brought forth and to determine, recommend, and implement options to address diverse, complex, and sensitive situations, including alternate dispute resolution, investigation, or a broader organizational approach.

• Manages complex internal complaints from report to resolution focused on alternate dispute resolutions e.g. mediations, facilitated conversations with parties experiencing workplace conflict to ensure that Interior Health fulfils its legislated obligation under the Respectful Workplace Policy and related legislation to provide a safe workplace.

• Provides expertise and guidance regarding the application and interpretation of the RWP, Respectful Workplace Policy and related policies, human rights legislation, Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism, harassment, discrimination, and collective agreement provisions. This includes guidance on coaching and clarifying conversations, respectful workplace investigations, psychological health and safety and trauma informed investigation practices, dispute resolution, and approaches for resolve.

• Works connectedly with managers and HR Business Partners to determine an internal or external process as per established criteria, best practice and with considerations for individual and organizational needs to achieve the best outcome as it pertains to investigations. Performs respectful workplace investigations as required.

• Works collaboratively with HR Business Partners, Organizational Development and Learning Development, Workplace Health & Safety, Employee Experience to increase accountability and understanding of the leadership role in supporting and promoting a respectful workplace.

• Establishes metrics for success measurement of the RWP program and policy that leads to the reduction of respectful workplace complaints.

• Develops education curriculum to be delivered to IH leaders and staff to educate and promote the awareness of the RWP, appropriate behaviours and actions, and related policies, processes, and resources. Delivers related manager and employee education sessions.

• Builds positive and collaborative relationships with Unions in respect to Respectful Workplace issues and opportunities for alternate dispute resolution. Works with WorkSafe BC representatives to develop a consultative approach to mutual problem solving, enhancing communication, proactively anticipating, and resolving issues and implementing required changes.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• An undergraduate degree in an area of HR and/or Business or Social Sciences.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ recent related experience in workplace investigation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, preferably in a health care or other complex unionized setting.
• Completion of courses, or certification in Mediation, Conflict Coaching or Collaborative Conflict Resolution.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated applied knowledge and experience in conflict resolution and alternate dispute resolution, and application of trauma-informed approaches and inclusive, culturally safe practices to support resolution of complex or sensitive workplace environment complaints/concerns.
• Demonstrated ability in investigative procedures, interviewing techniques report writing, and applying sound judgment, best practices, policy, and legislation to make informed decisions related to racism, discrimination and other complaints that fall under the BC Human Rights Code and relevant OHS legislation.
• Understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-seeking groups ensuring a fair process for all complainants and respondents.
• Ability to recognize internal bias.
• Comprehensive knowledge of human resource and labour relations practices as they relate to respectful workplace, human rights legislation, bullying and harassment legislation, WorkSafe BC legislation, and various collective agreements.
• Working knowledge of standard human resource policies and practices and related employment legislation.
• Demonstrated strong and respectful communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent conflict coaching, conflict resolution, facilitation, and mediation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and in a complex multi-union environment.
• Ability to function effectively and independently in a highly dynamic environment, including working under pressure, responding to changing priorities and managing emotionally charged situations.
• Proficient using MS Office, Word and Excel, Microsoft Teams internal systems and databases. databases.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver training and education sessions to large groups.
• Ability to travel to locations throughout Interior Health as required.
• Valid BC Driver's license.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
